I was just using Edge (DISCLAIMER: it had popped up earlier for one of the links I clicked -- normally use Chrome.)
I went to search some text in an MSDN article about the author, Ted Neward.
His sig line says, polytechnology consultant so I highlighted and right-clicked because I wanted to see how proliferate that terminology is across the web.
Microsoft Marketing Miss
Microsoft does NOT provide a menu item [Search Bing for "polytechnology consultant"]
Instead, I have to copy the text and go to a search engine etc.
Chrome offers => [Search Google for "polytechnology consultant"]
I'm Patenting This Technology
I'm writing up the patent now, so Microsoft-people, please contact me and I'll sell you this idea for $2 Billion USD or 34 bitcoin.

Firefox has the [Search Google for "polytechnology consultant"] also.
Interesting. Not sure why Microsoft hasn't shown up to hire me yet.

Well, no - they know that nobody will ever voluntarily use it...
By the way ... if you set your default search engine to Bong, or Yahoo!, or even Ask then Chrome changes the context menu appropriately - it doesn't force you to use Bong, unlike Cortana.

It annoys to no end that I can not uninstall Cortana.

I just ignore it. But then I accidently use it, click the wrong thing and it fires up Edge, summons Bong, and gives me a bunch of useless results I didn't want or mean to ask it for...

I could've sworn the very thing you're describing has just been added to Edge in a recent Insider builds. Although I have it installed, I can't be arsed to look it up right now...

Interesting. We are a few revisions behind on work computer so maybe it doesn't show there for that reason too.
Also, I'll be looking for my royalty check from MS.

Don't confuse Insider builds with builds such as 1803.
Insider versions are essentially betas for vNext, and no-one in his right mind ought to run these on "work computers".

Yes, highlighting something and right clicking will bring up a menu that includes "Ask Cortana about …"

Oh, okay, I am 100% blind to cortana. Never use it. Didn't even notice that.
So they are trying to force cortana on me. Now that's the MS I know. I knew they should be forcing something or other on me. They've obviously given up on Bing and now it is this cortana thing that I need to be intent on ignoring.

So in your original message, you're lamenting the fact that Edge doesn't have the lookup functionality that Chrome offers as a built-in feature. Turns out you can do it in Edge (via Cortana), but that's "being forced" on you?

Right-clicking on mine has "Bing lookup", rather than anything Cortana-ish.

I have a "Bing Lookup" option in my right click menu. I don't know why it's different - maybe it's a Group Policy thing here at work to disable Cortana.
