I know this stuff comes from sponsors, and there m ight be a bit of politics involved, but...
I appreciate the software, but I really have no use for most of it. (Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly gonna download it. )
My employer doesn't use any of it (in fact, I've never had an employer that used any of it), and it feels kinda strange to include (or consider including) the DDLs in CP articles. In other words, there's no real incentive to actually use any of it.
What are the chances of getting Microsoft to provide things like a MSDN subscription (the $1199 one), the Expression Pro subscription, Windows 7 Ultimate, Visual Studio, Expression Suite, MS Office, or something like that?

Thanks for brining this topic up. I almost forgot about mentioning it. When i won the Best ASP.NET article competition some time back, i got licences of few thrid party controls for an year. It was of no use to me and got wasted. Those controls were not used in my projects and i had hardly downloaded all.
I am sure CP must had recieved such response earlier too. It's just that including something more generic might be more useful and encouraging.

We'll certainly ask, but we can only offer what is offered. We're not trying to push any of the prizes and there are no hidden agendas with them. They are simply offers from companies kind enough to donate the product as a chance to say thank you.
When we have the resources we do try and hold comps with special prizes (eg laptops, Zunes, copies of Win7 etc) but they take a little more persuasion (or just cold hard cash).

Maybe we need a CPBay so you can trade prizes with other members, or swap them for a CP mug, some rep points, or something.

You were not the only one, I also had to look twice.

Two problems with that. First the prizes would just show up again next month since they're mostly donations, not stuff Chris has bought.
Second, publicly sending a message that the prize is worthless (even if it is to the contest winner) might annoy the companies that donate prizes whichsince at least some of them also advertise here, probably isn't a good thing.

I didn't say they were worthless. I simply said that I don't have much of a use for them *personally*. I also said I would certainly download them. Because they're mine now.

Having Collapse button breaks the text flow in the article and is not really useful when there are only a few lines in the PRE block.
