I've created a windows service using VB.NET, the service monitors the users actions and should lanuch an application if particular set of conditions have been meet. The problem I'm having is the launch of the windows application from the service. I found an explaination to my problem in MSDN "Process created by the service cannot display a user Interface". I think if I start a new process/thread as the current user not the service I should be able to start my application. My problem...How do you create a new process/thread as the current user?
If anyone has a solution or idea I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

i get the above error when i try to generate a report in vb. i am using the report designer, but i have checked the report and there is not label or text field or anything lapping over page - what could be the problem? any help would be greatly appreciated!

try decreasing the report size in the design...i.e. pull the side inwards a little bit....

I used to use control array in vb which is currently not support by vb .net. For example, if i have 5 text box and make it as control array of text(0), text(1)...text(4) to refer to respective text control. what happen is i have a problem of refering to the control in the form when the control having the focus by press the f3 key to call the lookup windows...in vb .net. Attached with sample code for your reference and understanding in VB.

How could we refer the control array in the calling Private Sub form1_KeyDown(ByVal eventSender As System.Object, ByVal eventArgs As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles MyBase.KeyDown in vb .net. Please help me ? Any other methods ?

HI,
Is there a way I can use the windows "file moving" animation that explorer moves?
I have a program that takes a file/directory, does some hashing stuff etc etc and then moves the files to a new directory, and performs the same hashing algorhythms to nathermatically prove files did not change between locations...
I want the "file moving" animation to pop up while I am doing it....
can it be done, or do I have to build my own??

Is it possible to freeze columns in the MSHFlexGrid control? If not, is there another control that can be used in VB6 in which columns can be frozen in the same way that Freeze Panes works in MS Excel?

Dear Sirs,
I develop a mediaplayer (mPlayer.exe), which uses the runtime argument to pass in the file name that refers to the movie to be played back in the player.
Instead of entering the file name each time when I run the mPlayer.exe, is there any way I can develop a wrapper, which will make use of the mPlayer.exe and the file name as input and generate a new mediaplayer inside which the file name had been hardcoded. Thus a stand alone executable could be run instead of a mPlayer.exe and a file name.
I tried to do like this because only the new wrapper and the excutable mediaplayer (mPlayer.exe) could be released under my current development plan.

I have a component(dll) which is registered on COM+.The dll has only one add
method and return a value.Now i want to access this component from another
machine.I am wrote the code in VB as activex exe which i have checked option
for remote server files also.
i just want to know how to access this dll from anyother machine.What are
the steps involve in that process.

on the machine where you have installed the component in COM+, go to the application, and choose Export. Then select Application Proxy.
This will setup the right informaiton, and create an MSI installed file.
Now go to the machine where you want to use the component, and run this MSI.
YOu will now be creating the instance of the component on your com+ server.

Hi,
I have a dataset that is ordered by an account number. But I also want to access this dataset by last name. When I setup my combo box with last name, I can move around the dataset but the names are not in order. I've setup another dataset where the SQL pulls in name order. Does anyone have some code I can use as an example to move my main dataset around using my sorted name combo box? Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to write a small program that shovels search parameters into Kazaa and then initiates a search. Almost a dynamic macro 
I'm fairly new with Visual Basic and C++, and I while I understand basic DLL structure, I am confused as how I can control one program through another.
Any thoughts or ideas? I know I'm missing something.

I am viewing a multi page document (.Tif) in a picture box. I have no problem paging back and forth thru the frames until I rotate one of them. After Rotation of one of the frames the picturebox refuses to display the selected frame. It still pages thru the frames and it dose refresh, but the selected frame is not displayed. Dose anyone have an answer to this problem?

I have a problem with GUI design and would be interested what anyone else would do.
My client wants their users to be able to change the system time to another date other than NOW(). What they have requested is a checkbox be placed on a form and when ticked a dialog pops up with a date-time pick on it from which the user can select the new system date. I have presently put OK and CANCEl buttons on the said dialog. If the user has changed the date to other than NOW() and hits OK then the system date is updated, otherwise clicking on CANCEL leave the system date un-changed. If the system date remains as NOW() the check-box is then un-ticked otherwise it is ticked.
The problem I have is that if the system date is already something other than NOW() and they wish to change the date to some other date but still not NOW(), clicking on the check-nox obviously un-ticks the checkbox and desn't then show the said dialog they have to tick the checkbox a second time to get the dialog to show.
I think the checkbox isn't quite the correct widget to use. They don't want the date to be visible until the dialog is displayed.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I think so you are having a problem,
As per the problem i understand is When you open the dialog box to display and store it in a variable the system time and date is stored.
But when the user selects Ok button or cancel button the time gets changed.
When you next call now function.
it is better to use date function and time function
this will give you the current time and todays date.

you can use the Richtextbox, but thats big as well  Try using the IRLLabel if you can make it work.

How can you convert an icon to a bitmap without losing all of its quality.
So .ToBitmap loses its alpha channel.

Bitmaps don't support an alpha channel natively. Usually when a bitmap is drawn "transparently" it uses what's called a bitmask (or mask for short).
Alternatively, you could try another format like GIF, PNG, TIFF, etc. that do support an alpha channel.

dear all,
1)how do i add hexadecimal numbers in vb (result too in hexadecimal numbers)
2) if there are 4 hexadecimal numbers say
0x40
0x80
0x1000
0x2000
and i have a number 0x10C2 (which is the hex sum of the top 3 numbers).
now using such a number (which is the sum of any of the above hex numbers ) can i find which of the above numbers are included in the sum if it is ensured that a number is added only once.

- In VB/VB.NET, hexadecimal numbers are prefixed with
&H, not 0x.
You use hex numbers in exactly the same way as decimal numbers, e.g. Dim i As Integer = &H40 + &H80.
To print the result as a hex number, use i.ToString("X") in VB.NET, or Hex(i) in VB6. - The sum of the first three numbers is 10C0, not 10C2.
You can use the And operator to find the numbers. For example:

I fixed a typo in my previous post, which should give you the correct result. [You need sum = sum + Hex(i), not sum = sum + Hex(number).  ]
The code walks through each binary bit of the number, and tests to see if that bit is set, using the bitwise And operator. [0 <> (number And i)]. If the bit is set, it appends the hex representation of the bit to a string.
0x10C0 = 0001 0000 1100 0000
= 0000 0000 0100 0000
+ 0000 0000 1000 0000
+ 0001 0000 0000 0000
= 0x0040
+ 0x0080
+ 0x1000
