i read few topics about send email, some examples use ip address
my Q is: is an email address samilar to an ip address?
i.e. abc@yahoo.com is same as xxxx.xxxx.xxxx?
if yes, which part of an email address matches ip numbers?

may be the yahoo.com would correspond to the ip address. but i have never seen any example that uses ip address to send the mail, may be you are talking about pop3 server ip address.

I believe that you break abc@yahoo.com down into the user 'abc' and the address 'yahoo.com'. Then you query your local DNS server for the 'Mail eXchange' (MX) record for 'yahoo.com'. This gives you a real IP address, 123.123.123.123. You then connect to the SMTP server at that address and ask it to deliver mail to abc.
In general this functionality is performed by your local SMTP server, your email client will always connect to your ISP's SMTP server which will in turn connect to yahoo.com and pass the mail on. AOL for example will now only accept mail from a known list of IP addresses to try and reduce spam.

my process is:
file address.txt includes tens of email addresses
file message.txt contains info for sending
i never use email in c++ before.
open files are easy.
do you have more suggestion in vc to implement email task of mine?

I need some guidance, or a pointer, as to where I can find the answer to the question. I'm looking for a way to list all active processes running on a windows computer (2k/xp mainly, but 9x/me if its compatible with that as well), which have an open network connection (or are listening). Now, this much I can do with IPHlpApi.
However, what I want is based on the individual connection/process, I would like to be able to find out how much bandwidth is being used at any point in time.
So if anyone can suggest what I should look into, or a site, or some example code, I'd greatly appreciate it.
One other thing, and this is more of an off-topic interest than something I'd require, is being able to monitor i/o usage for individual processes.

By "bandwidth" do you mean "network bandwidth?" If so, not all processes use the network. In that case, their usage would be 0. Do you means CPU usage instead?

I guess I should have specified, yes I do mean network bandwidth, and its only for processes that do in fact use the network (of course not all do).

I don't know of any way that ties the two together. That would make the OSI model less effective if the physical layer knew about the application layer (i.e., the process that is sending/receiving data).
If you are interested in just how many bytes/packets are sent through the physical layer, you might want to look at the Performance Monitoring API. Of particular interest are the Network Interface and IP objects.

Hello All,
Our project needs to customize the scrollbar of a CListCtrl. We have implemented this by removing the non client area of CListCtrl and painting our own scrollbars using bitmaps. We have taken this approach since from Win XP onwards the system just thows the original scrollbars whenever it sees a non-client area.
Now regarding this whenever we are dragging the thumb, the whole area including the area covered by arrow marks (for either horizontal or vertical) are scrolling. This is resulting in the arrow marks going away. Getting the focus either through change of application or generating the SB_PAGEDOWN etc message, is restoring them. How can we stop this effect. This is happening even after we making sure that we draw the arrows in every drag operation.
Ideally while dragging the thumb, the portion occupied by the left/right up/down arrows should not scroll. I can understand that this is happening due to nc area not being present. But is there a way to stop this effect
Again while resizing the header control, the effect is not coming right during the time when horizontal scroll bar goes from a visible to no HSCROLL stage.
How can we stop such effects, in cases when we dont have the original window scroll bars behind in CListCtrl, similar to our implementation.

if they are really threads, you could use global datas ;
if they in fact processes, use pipes or messages...

why SetLayeredWindowAttribute does not work for child windows , as i want transparency effect for common controls.It looks WS_EX_LAYERED is not supported by child windows.so can anybody tell me a way to do this.
