And then they incorrectly state that that is an "other" ethical matter.
"Isms" aren't ethical matters; they're just a ridiculously large excess of personal preference and belief in one's own perfection. They're stupid and wrong, but they ain't ethics.

The point is that there have been massive computer-tech advancements in multiple fields (particularly medical, which really puts "handys" in their place on the importance scale), and they're whining that there hasn't been another revolution in portable phones?
If nothing but portable phones matter, then yes, we're in a very narrow fanbois territory.

And what I'm saying is that phones are pretty much irrelevant, compared with all the amazing developments that are actually good for society, save lives, and improve the standards of life of countless people, so excluding (or showing no awareness of) the good stuff is borderline idiotic.

When I hear claims about Apple pioneering anything I think "Pioneering in what sense?", as if anyone followed in their footsteps Apple would in all likelihood sue them for everything they had.

They created the current paradigm in the mobile industry. So pioneered in that sense.
As is almost always the case the tech innovation is not original to them but they put it all together in a sufficiently usable format that caused everyone else to follow suit.

I think you have a good point there - Apple probably help to show that a particular technology can make money and others then follow in the technology or are at least challenged to improve.
I think Android was around at the same time as the iPhone, except the early Android releases were no way as decent as UI iOs exposed. So Android had to catch up and it has done a really good job of now having a decent UI.
