But the project notes that this is not part of Rust's stability guarantee, even though Rust is designed so that new warnings don't break dependencies.
hhhhmmmm why should a warning break something? Am I missing something?

The C world can't add new warnings because doing so would break the builds of everyone who configured their tools to only succeed on zero warnings, but have processes as rigid as they are unwilling to allocate developer time to address potential problems that an improved tool chain could theoretically detect.

I'm guessing what they've done is to version warnings so Sunshine | [little ray of sunshine] s running a zero warnings and zero code changes world can just baseline their tools on the 2020.12 warning level, and blissfully ignore all the language maintainers attempts to help find more problems with their code short of production. D'Oh! |
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
