The Weird and The Wonderful

The Weird and The Wonderful forum is a place to post Coding Horrors, Worst Practices, and the occasional flash of brilliance.

We all come across code that simply boggles the mind. Lazy kludges, embarrassing mistakes, horrid workarounds and developers just not quite getting it. And then somedays we come across - or write - the truly sublime.

Post your Best, your worst, and your most interesting. But please - no programming questions . This forum is purely for amusement and discussions on code snippets. All actual programming questions will be removed.

Admittedly a SP would be much a nicer solution, but in real life you may have to work with databases where you are nowhere near getting authorized to implement a SP.

Think of implementing a reporting system for at large financial institution as a consultant. What do you think their reply would be if you came saying "I need a dozen new stored procedures in your central DB2-database"? The polite answers would be something along the lines of "I'm sorry but that won't be possible", "Are you quite sure this is needed?" etc, etc. The impolite answer would be to find someone else to do the job.
