if you have more than 1 web.config file in a project. it should be put in sub directory. its not correct to have 2 configuration files in same directory.

Check if in web.config file SessionState is set to false. and also check if the value is set in the first page or not.

Try to debug your code and check if the value it is comparing is correct or not.

First of all you will get selected row for gridview only if the command name is select. moreover do you have datakey names set for the girdview.

helped me trace for error.

since it was giving the id of the control I changed clientID to UniqueId so that It returns the name of the server control and the code is working fine.

i checked the source, i see that it is generating the id of the control, how can i get name of the control.
