I've got some ideas on something similar. Stay tuned

Wouldn't it be nice if clicking on the message subject that you have open at the moment would close (hide) the message body. It is not terribly important, but sometimes message bodies are very long and when I open it by mistake (I've read it already or something) my first intention is to click on the message subject again to close it. That way I will be able to click on the next message without scrolling 3 pages down.
I hope it makes sense and I want to repeat again that it is not at all important - just something to add to the endless "when we have nothing else to do" list.
Thank you.

This is an easy one - consider it done.

"Da Bosh" is what I fancy to be Carribean pronounciation for "The Boss"

Hey Chris, just an idea but I would appreciate some kind of "link back" image for CP so that I, and others, can link to CP from my site (it's rather crappy site at the moment yes...). A normal link just does not do justice to CP
Checkout the Blogger or Independants Day buttons to see what I mean.
I am sure Bob would look very cool on a link button

In the articles page it'd be nice if you can put something like "this zip has been downloaded N times"

Uh oh. I never thought of that dangerous side-effect. I guess someone like Mike will suffer most.

I was just looking up my membership level, and I am shown as Bronze level while someone else who has the same number of articals (2);same join day (6th June 2000), but less messages posted has silver level?
Do a search on "roger"
And compare Wes Rogers with myself?
Whats the discrepincy here?
I am sure I should be silver level by now....
Membership status calculated as follows:
1-4 articles posted = Bronze. 5-14 articles = Silver. 15-24 articles = Gold. 25+ articles = Platinum. Each 500 messages posted, and each year of membership elevates you 1 level up to a maximum of Gold. Posting a single message automatically guarantees you Bronze membership.

Chris,
Right now if I want to post a pic or some file in the lounge or in the forums, I need to upload it to a server and post the URL.
I think it would be nice if CP has a file upload area. You can limit the file size to a max of 300 KB per file and a total max of 10 MB for all the files.
Files can be deleted 24/48 hours after upload.
Thus we can post links to the files easily.

Go Nish! Very cool idea. You covered the main problems Chris would have replied about. Nice thinking!
Now David can upload all those BOB pron movies he has made.

This is a good idea but one issue with this is moderation of the uploaded content. I can keep tabs on what's uploaded via articles, but an image upload area may produce a ton of uploads that I wouldn't have time to track, and in the end CodeProject would be responsible for what was posted (so if someone uploaded illegal/offensive stuff then we get in trouble). The other issue is that deleting the images/files after 24hrs will result in lots of discussion board messages with broken links (which means more angry mail in my intray).
Even so - I'll have a think about it becuase it *is* a cool idea.
cheers,
Chris Maunder (CodeProject)

Perhaps you can give an upload username/passwd to some of the nicer members who you can trust . For example people like me or say poor "paul 33.6 modem" watson

Hi Chris,
I was looking at the latest book chapter from Wrox earlier, and was wondering if you could put a TOC at the top of the article - it was thought that inspired me to write the HTML TOC Generator program in the first place in fact. I think it would make the article a lot easier to navigate.
Just a thought ...
