Use a template column. Take a look at this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1486062/how-do-i-add-a-column-with-buttons-in-to-a-gridview-in-asp-net[^]

To only have a button in the first row, you may place some identifier on the first row. Make the button visible only when you detects the identifier.
