May I please inquire if you had read the book and if not may I suggest you do as I am sure you will find it a great pleasure. I found the film version a disappointment as it seems to me to have been made for a young audience. As for the book it is one of my three all time favorites. As an aside I mention the other two here "The Right Stuff" and "Forever War". In fact the flashback to Inigo's childhood wherein his father creates the six fingered sword is in my humble opinion the reason the English language was invented as I found it thrilling and have read and re-read it many times. Unfortunately the first half of the book including the aforementioned part is absent from the film. I am awaiting a proper remake which treats the entire story in a serious manner for adults perhaps in a similar vein as the other William Goldman classic "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". I have not read the book and now you make me want to. However, having read many fantastic books that have been made into movies, it's a general occurrence, if not generally accepted fact, that most movies made from great books are, at the very least, a disappointment. So I've learned to just take the movies as a separate thing altogether and judge them as separate works in their own right.

Should you read the book I would be interested in your judgement of it though perhaps you might enjoy it less knowing the outcome after seeing the film. Perhaps that is why I did not enjoy the film after having read the book but I don't think so. I found the casting and performances to be milk toast. The evil Count Rugen portrayed by a comic "inconceivable". The swashbuckler Westley would have been better portrayed by the likes of Errol Flynn or Clark Gable someone with fire in their eyes and grit in their teeth. I feel about the book the way others feel about the film. It is "inconceivable" to me that others don't enjoy it as I do. However I once forced my brother to read the flashback to Inigo's childhood and the making of the six fingered sword. He was unimpressed so I must accept that my tastes are not always the same as that of others but then he is merely a doctor with little training in the hard sciences and as it commonly represented e.g. the TV program "The Big Bang Theory" those of us who are seem to have a preference for fantasy. I am still awaiting a remake of the duel atop the Cliffs of Insanity which incidentally is the occurrence of the flashback to the making of the six fingered sword but I will expect the skies to darken and thunder and lighting to fill them in distance as the battle commences and I to believe that this is a duel to a violent even gruesome death with every swipe of the blade as I vaguely recall the late Lord Laurence Olivier once stated it must be for proper filming. Kind Regards Cheerios

I don't have much experience with threading and need some ideas. For brevity's sake I'll use psuedo-code.
I'm downloading a group of files from an ftp server.
ManualResetEvent mre = new ManualResetEvent(false);
In a loop I download one file at a time with no problem.
I put up a form with a progressbar for the total number of files.
opf.Show();
for(...)
{
// main thread
mre.Reset();
BeginOpenRead(fileName, new AsyncCallback(BeginOpenReadCallback), client)
opf.overAllProgressbar.value = ...;
// wait for the file to finish before starting another download
mre.WaitOne();
}
private void BeginOpenReadCallback(AsyncResult ar)
{
// this is now a new thread
while (read = ...)
{
// when I attempt to update the individual file progress I am crossthreading (without this everything works fine)
opf.textbox.Text = ...;
}
}
So in the form I put in this code:
delegate void SetTextCallback(string text);
public void SetText(string text)
{
if (this.textbox.InvokeRequired)
{
SetTextCallback d = new SetTextCallback(SetText);
this.textbox.Invoke(d, new object[] { text });
}
else
{
this.textbox.Text = text;
}
}
At this point when I attempt to set the text and invoke, the code returns back to the
mre.WaitOne();
Essentially the 2nd thread is waiting for the 1st thread which is waiting for the 2nd and nothing else happens at this point. I have been researching threads and have found many different ways of creating and managing them, I just haven't found this particular scenario. If someone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ask the user for the name of the company that developed the JavaScript lan-

Hi,
Thanks for the solution, it's great !! but I have a problem with it.
When I'm trying to click on a checkbox after open the list, it required two clicks to enter the list of checkboxes.
I tried to add this code:
protected override void OnClick(EventArgs e)
{
base.OnClick(e);
this.Parent.Focus();
}
it cause the list to close immediately after open.
any suggestions ?

I decided to start blogging, I prepared what is worth a blog post today, but not an article.
I just tried CP blog and it is 'still' really weak. I couldn't add a photo for instance, as a result I decided to don't post my technical content.
I believe the idea of unifying members blogs on CP is GREAT, but posting members blogs 'as articles' is very very bad, now there are just too many articles with low quality I believe, (I miss old days when I had to read all articles!! They were all great.), if instead of 'blog as articles', we could have both articles and 'real' blog sections here, I think that would make CP a much much pleasant place.
I even want to suggest to add the option to 'approve articles as blog' so that if an article is posted that isn't good enough (or maybe long enough?) as a real article, be moved to anthers' blog entries.

Hi Hamed,
Thanks very much for your feedback. Typically what we do if an article is lacking is either encourage the author to make improvements to the article, or tell them to change their post to a "tips and tricks" post.
Blog entries tend to have a slightly different flavour, and if a member is submitting something like a blog entry, typically it is from their blog and we encourage them to sign their blog up to CodeProject.
Thanks,

"tips and tricks" post?! Didn't know about that! It seems that I was away from CP for far too long! Thanks for the tip. I'll just check that out.
