More about sharing, than about winning!

Can we use tools which they can convert codes between languages such as mono for android or can we mix different libraries in our project (such as ndk, gtk).
Thank you...

As long as it runs on Android and uses NDK you're good to go. Anything else that's added is up to you.

Hello I am interested in entering the contest but I have some concerns about submitting full source code.
I know you go over it in the Terms and Conditions but I am not very good at parsing legal jargon.
Will you be distributing our source or compiled app in any way, or is it strictly for code review?
Thanks, and thanks for running such an awesome competition!

The competition works like all other competitions in that the goal is to, ultimately, allow other developers to learn from your code and article in order to allow them to get started in writing games.
Your article and code will be published on CodeProject.com like any other article.
I understand there may be certain proprietary pieces of code you don't wish to share, but we're assuming that a $25,000 grand prize will more than make up for any inconvenience you may face in writing code that doesn't use proprietary information you don't wish to share.
cheers,

What about arts and sounds? Not that I'm planning a complex game but It will probably include some assets not authored by me, at least some pixel art and a background music. Some questions:
1- ¿Can the game include any loadable asset at all or all must be done by code?
2- ¿Must the assets be created by myself?
3- ¿Can use downloaded Creative Commons assets (pixel art, sounds) not authored by me?
|
|
|
|

Hi there,
Please find the answers below:
1. We are okay with loadable assets
2. No, provided the below is met.
3. Yes, provided all of the assets either come from works supported by the Creative Commons license, or uses a license that does not conflict with any existing licenses that CodeProject supports, or has permission of the author of those assets provided those assets are not protected by licenses or terms not covered by CodeProject supported license or the attached Conditions of Entry.
I hope this is helpful.
Best of luck on your app submission!

that's really cool.. how many apps I can submit ?

Hi Manoel,
You can submit more than one app if you like, but keep in mind that quality is part of the judging criteria.
We look forward to your submission(s)
Best of luck!

Please, regarding the 1000US$ prizes you are saying end of the month.. but when specifically ? now it is 25 July.. If I submit now do I still have chance to receive the prize this month ?
Another question, may I use open source engines like andengine ?

|
|
|

Hi Manoel,
Thank you for your inquiry.
The deadline for the monthly prizes will be on the 6th of each month. If you submit now you will still be eligible for the July monthly prize
As long as the engine you're using (and app) work on the intel emulator (see link to emulator under Resources You'll Need) then you are free to use that engine.
Please let us know if you have further questions.
Best of luck!

The rules say that the game should be based on NDK, but andengine is java. Is it okay to use engines that do not use NDK?
|
|
|
|

could someone help me? because NDK is C++, but you said that we can use andengine, but andegine is Java. So, the only restriction it´s to work in the intel emulator?

Hi Rafah,
I'm inclined to say that as long as the engine and app can run in the Intel emulator, then it's okay, but I'm just waiting for confirmation on that before I give you a definitive answer.
Stay tuned
Best,

Hi Rafah,
I have confirmed that you can use andengine as long as the engine and app work in the Intel emulator, but the app cannot be a dalvik app.
Best of luck,

Is this solo or team effort?
|
|
|

Hi bgaldames,
You may work in a team, but please be advised that you can only submit one app per team and the prize will be shared in the event that you win.
I hope this helps.
Best of luck!

Can i use some game engines like AndEngine and Cocos2d-X ?

Hi prchakal,
I am looking into this for you and will get back to you as soon as I am able.

Any news on this. Using an engine like cocos2d-x really opens cross-platform prospects for the game, and certainly eases development.

Hi there,
My apologies, yes, as long as the engine you're using (and app) work in the intel emulator (see link to the emulator under Resources You'll Need) then you are free to use that engine.
Please let us know if you have further questions.

It's not clear for me - what is more important in this contest - game itself or article about game development with intel emulator?
|
|
|
|

Hi Yureckey,
The judging criteria is as follows: Focus and scope, overall quality, coherence, structure, and how well the app functions in the emulator.
The article is secondary and does not need to be lengthy, although detail is welcome if you wish to provide it.
I hope this helps and best of luck!
