Hi, thanks for looking
Imagine eBay system, the only difference is that i need to alert the seller immediatly when they make a new sale
I need to develop a windows app that is monitoring the web app or somehow alert the pc of the seller about the new sale
I cant use email since im not sure if they are seeing the email, or even if they have an email account. SMS would be to expensive here
I had tought of doing a web service that accepts the ID of the seller and returns the sales for the given ID, and i would call this method from each client computer (seller) every minute or so, but since there could be many clients and also i would like the client to be notified as soon as posible i think this would not be the best approach
Is there any way to use tcplisteners or something like that??
Clients will have static ips, but they could change if disconnected for more than 1 day
Any advices will be appreciated
Thanks in advance

It seems like an "ActiveX Application". But the Internet Security will restrict if it is not trusted.

I noticed that several places you can use "~" to start a path for the application root. This does not seem to work for CSS files or for JavaScript files. Is there an inline way to ensure that the path in the browser starts at the root? It seems that there has to be a way for the ~ to be converted to a server name at least on the server then appended to the front of the relative path in the browser.
Thanks,

You can use the Page.ResolveUrl method or the Page.ResolveClientUrl method to turn a path containing ~ into a path usable in the browser.
This of course doesn't work for CSS files or Javascript files, as there is no server code in them.
Despite everything, the person most likely to be fooling you next is yourself.

Where you need it for?
If you use it to create reports....you get hurt.
NHibernate is only useful for CRUDS.

1. I receive this validation text when I try to login to my web application. No error is displayed it's just the validation of the login control after I deployed my web application on a windows 2003 server standard edition. I installed sql server express edition for the aspnetdb to be attached automatically.
But I keep receiving this message for every account that I try to login to. Is there anything missing in the permissions of the app_data folder? I added the ASPNET account in the permissions?
But I read somewhere that I should allow NETWORK SERVICE permission because I'm using windows server 2003, it has sp3 installed.
Can someone help out with the cause of the problem?
2. One more thing: I need to put a username and password for the enterprise manager and the query analyzer of sql server 2000. I can actually access them using a fullstop..so can I set a username and password for them?
thanks a lot in advance

what is stated in your web.config about authentication?
In SqlServer you can create your own users. You can grant them several rights to a database.

ok, I solved it finally by allowing permissions to Network service account.
Now, comes the part where I want to assign a username and password for the enterprize manager and the query analayzer as a whole not just on certain databases so that noone can actually open these two programs if they have access to the server. How can I do that without messing up my databases permissions and login users? It's really complicated for me? can someone help?

We have a local network with internet. The main machine which has the modem is connected also has an asp.net website on it. How can we only enable it for local usage only? Without disabling anonymous access and without Windows authentication, if possible.

You can select and assign local IP address to your IIS with Properties in Default Web site.

I assume you have AutoPostBack=true and OnSelectedIndexChanged-event programmed for the drop downlist.
Do you have DataKeyMember and DataKeyValue used in GridView? You need those.
In the Event you can do:
DropDownList ddl = (DropDownList)sender;
GridViewRow row = (GridViewRow)ddl.NamingContainer;
GridView1.SelectedIndex = row.RowIndex.
In that case you can find the value of GridView1.SelectedValue
At the end of the event add the line
GridView1.SelectedIndex = -1;
To state it simple:
If you know the DropDownList, you know in whoch container it is. That is the reason you need to know the NamingContainer. If you know that the rest is simple.
You can use this trick for any Component in a TemplateColumn.

The DropDownList is placed in the GridViewRow
If you know the DropDownList, you know it's NamingConatiner.
By Casting it to (GridViewRow) you retrieve the GridViewRow in which the DropDownList is.

You should never, ever, in any circumstances run Office on your Internet server. This is a BAD thing to do because Office applications are not designed to run on servers. They are client operations. If you want to use Office documents, consider looking at the Office Web Components instead.

Thank You,
But I can't find any, all of them it's by server side, anyone know what is client-side for Office Component?
