If you set the position in CSS, that is where it will be. I recommend you don't use the designer to lay things out, because it is inserting things you plainly do not understand.

In the Access DB being used as the backend (blame the client, not me) the PK is set as an auto number. When I try and insert without manually setting the value I get this error message: Exception Details: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: You tried to assign the Null value to a variable that is not a Variant data type. I assume I need to set a value in the ItemInserting event, but how do I get it from the DB?

Without seeing the insert I cannot be certain, but I think you must be referencing the autonumber field in your column list, sort of
insert into table(pk,name) values (null,'Bob')
whereas the correct syntax is
insert into table(name) values ('Bob')
Hope this helps

That's more or less what my query is (although I don't know how to see what the access data source component actually sends to the DB) but when I delete the PK from the query and control I get the following error, and an otherwise useless stack trace:
Data type mismatch in criteria expression.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Data type mismatch in criteria expression.

I have written the code for getting the path of file on hard disk.
as
string strPath = fileUpload.PostedFile.FileName;
For IE7 it gives me correct absolute Path
but for Mozila it's giving me only relative path i.e. file name only
and it's storing it's default path as
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\contacts.csv
Which is wrong one....
Please help me on this issue..
Thank you.

Why do you need to know the path to the file on the client machine ? I don't see how it matters.

Wow - what a helpful response!
Doesn't matter that you can't see how it matters - the OP obviously wants the full path (and the .Net specification says that the property will contain:
"The name of the client's file, including the directory path."
Sorry I can't be of assistance - as I would have expected the full path myself.

If I read his comment correctly, he's getting the full path, just differently based on the browser. ASP.NET has no control over this, it just renders an input tag. So, in that regard, what ASP.NET gets back depends entirely on what the browser sends.

Well, IE sends the full path, Mozilla sends the filename only. Sure ASP.NET has no control, but it does seem a strange difference of implementation to me. Obviously just a different interpretation by the browser-powers.
I think Mozilla feel the entire path is a security risk while Microsoft just don't care (one MVP said something like "if it was a security issue, I'm sure it would have been fixed by now" !!! Not sure what planet he was living on.

I thought he said the full path was there in another property ?
In any case, yeah, I agree, sounds like that MVP was a bit too much of a fan boy and not in touch with reality. I would agree, telling the server about your file system opens the possibility of security problems.

Why application_start ? It fires whenever your application starts. If you are getting mails continuously, I guess your application is restarting frequently.

It sounds like you have some working code, you just have it in the wrong place. Without knowing what the app is meant to do nobody can advise you further.
If your emails are being sent and arriving then your code is correct.

I'm debugging an ASP.NET 2.0 web site in Firefox 3, and every time I start the site, I get asked if I want to make Firefox my default browser. Is there a way I can avoid this? BTW, I'm using the built-in (Cassini) web server for debugging.

It's not an ASP.NET question. It depends on your firefox settings. Goto "Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> System Defaults -> Uncheck "Check to see firefox is default browser".
|
|
|
|
|
It only asks me when I start an ASP.NET project. I didn't get asked opening this window, despite that option being checked.

Well, have you tried the "Browse With" menu item when you right click on the project in solution explorer ? There you will find all the installed browsers, try making firefox as default. It's working correctly here.

I have a website, written in ASP .Net & C#, and I am using a Substitution to display the contents of an Excel spreadsheet. The page consists of a DetailsView with paging enabled; I need to coordinate the file shown in the substitution with the record currently displayed in the DetailsView. I have the filename stored in the same table as the contents of the DetailsView, but what I can't figure out is how to get that filename and display it in the Substitution.
Currently, I have it written as
<asp:Substitution runat="server" ID="Substitution1" Visible="False" MethodName="<%Response.WriteFile("C:\\Domains\\nautikakennels.com\\wwwroot\\pedigrees\\SterlingPedigree.htm"); %>" />
I was thinking about writing a SCRIPT tag in the page, but I'm not sure how to do that either...
Please HELP!
Thanks!

I guess your code is wrong. Create a separate JS function and give it there.
function doMouseOver(obj){
obj.className='opaque';
obj.bgColor='<%=Session["BackColor"]% >
}
onmouseover=doMouseOver(this) Hope it helps

Hi
I have a for loop which loops through a list of items in a gridview
For each item in the gridview i have an if statement which checks if a checkbox column in the gridview is checked, if it is then do something.
Now I have the following dilemma:
Say there is 5 items in the gridview a user can select 3 of them and not the other two and something will happen to just the ones that are selected
If they select all of them then something will happen
But currently if they select none nothing will happen
But I want to allow them to select none of the checkboxes for a change to be applied to all items in the gridview, however i dont know when to put this if statement to check if all are empty as I cant put it in the for loop as it would check one at a time.
any help would be great!
thanks!
Please ask for better exlanation if needed.
cheers

You want do something when no check boxes are checked, you want to do something when 3 check boxes are checked and you don't want to do anything if more than 3 of them are checked, Right ?
int itemsChecked = 0;
foreach(GridViewRow row gridView.Rows)
{
if(chk.Checked)
itemsChecked++;
}
If "itemsChecked" and gridview's row count is equal, then all items are checked. Is this what you need ?

no sorry
i would like the following
if all of the checkboxes are blank in the gridview to then update all items in the gridview,
Where would I check if all checkboxes are blank as I cant do this in the loop as it looks at each row one at a time therefore wont know if the next one is checked or not
thanks for the answer though

Have you tried using the if statement 1st. Say if the checkbox is checked then do the loop else if checkbox isn't checked then perform the other action?
