You can create a public property for that control on the page in question, but this is not a great way of accessing data (for a web application).

If you are using cross postback in 2.0, use the "PreviousPage" object and type cast it to the called page and access it controls.

there's nothing wrong with the code.
Button1.Attributes.Add("onclick", "window.close();");
try changing the case of onclick to onClick.maybe some case-sensitivity issue.

Dear,
first check if your page_load event is working. i mean if the code in this event is getting compiled by putting a breakpoint at the beginning to this event.
if yes, the code seems working. put the button id as it is because it's case sensitive.

Hi!
I have a DB table that references it self to create a hierarky. If the ParentRoleId column is null then the Role represents a top level role:
Database columns:<br />
RoleId PK (Identity)<br />
ParentRoleId FK (Allow null)<br />
RoleValue
Now to the question: I'm using typed datasets as database access, but the generated code for the ParentRoleId column is of the type int and thus doesn't support null.
How should I create a workaround for this?

Aloha,
We have a datagrid with some templatecolumns that show datetime data in an European format (day/month-year).
Everything looks great, but they don't sort correctly. It looks like they are sorted like normal text strings, so day is considered before month and year:
11-05-2006 - should appear last, since it's later than all the other dates
12-04-2006
13-04-2006
14-04-2003 - should appear first
Any idea how to fix this?

You can set the datatype of the column you are sorting on to be datetime rather than string.

Yes, it would be easy with a dataset. Unfortunately we have a dictionary<int, object=""> where the object contains the data for a row in the datagrid.
The object contains datetime properties for the data we want to display in the datetime columns.

How are you then performing the sorting?

Implemented the OnSort event on the datagrid. The data is in an ArrayList format and I sort it using the ArrayList.Sort() method.
Maybe this can be changed to handle datetime values?

You'll need to alter that code to handle sorting on the particular data type - if you're using .net 2.0, i'd consider using a List<T> to allow you to use explicitely set types - by default the arraylist contains only items of Object type - it doesn't know how to sort them.

hi dear
i am using a typed dataset to load data from database have some modification in it and then updating it back to database...
while inserting row into one of typed dataset's table it is clearly indicating count=1.. and i am again reusing that inserted row in to typed dataset's table ... but while at time of updating that table back to database it is throwing an exception that "null value cannot be inserted into 'MyColumnNameInDataTable' because it cannot contain null values"..
i am unable to sort it out...
please help me...

Do one thing debug the code and find that before updating the database
datatable should contain the data. Might be you are trying to update emty dataset into database
Can you post the code so that after seeing it we can come to any result

I have some large text bound to the asp:label control.I want to add a note to the lines i want.So when i click the mouse at the starting point of the line,an image button should be placed at that point.
when i click the mouse at another starting point of the line,the above image instance should be placed here.
I have tried several ways of doing these.....but couldn't get.

I have 2 dropdown on my webpage . I am taking the index value from one dropdown using javascript , so i have make the AutoPostback Event property off for that dropdown control . Now , i want to fill the another dropdown , by filtering on the basis of value selected from first dropdown.

You can write following code on SelectedIndexChanged event of first dropdown list. and then load the data based on first dropdown's detail. and in second drop down keep AutoPostback off.

My problem is : i want grid cell in javascript.I have total value in hidden.I want to store in different cells of third column of datagrid.
How can i use of datagrid property in javascript?

i think you don't have datagrid property in javascript as it is server control specifically for asp.net
My suggestion for you is that create a custom control and write the html tags in the render method which is good solution I think

In the item databound event, you should be able to get a reference to the hidden field for that row. When you have that, you should then be able to pass the ClientId of that control to your javascript function in the button click event.

Something like this (in the OnItemDataBound event of your grid):
Dim myHiddenField As HtmlInputHidden
Dim myButton As Button
myButton = DirectCast(e.Item.FindControl("buttonId"), Button)
myHiddenField = DirectCast(e.Item.FindControl("hiddenId"), HtmlInputHidden)
myButton.Attributes.Add("onclick", "JavascriptFunctionName('" & myHiddenField.ClientID & "');")
Then in your javascript function you can use that id to populate your hidden field with whatever data it is that you need.
