I have a datagrid with with a button column and a few databound columns. The button column when clicked shows more details for a given row.

ex)
123 ABC Company View Records

123 being a unique ID. ABC Company being a description. View Records is the button.

When I added sorting to the headers, the application would direct me to the View Records code when clicking on the header to sort. I just wanted to sort.

I found the reason. The InitializeComponent() was using an ItemCommand for the View Records button which is executed when any button on the grid is clicked. The headers for sorting were using the SortCommand for a datagrid. When I allowed sorting of the headers, I suspect .NET turned those headers into buttons.

Is there anyway around this? I would like to keep my View Records button within the datagrid. I tried changing the View Records button into a hyperlink, but then I got an error for not having a correct datasource for the datagrid. I don't want to mess with the datasource select that is too much change.

In itemcommand event handler add a check on top if arguments.commandName != "sort". Moreover the button columns have the commandname property, so you can set different command name for buttons (if you have multiple buttons in one row) and in itemcommand event handler check the command name and act accordingly.

However, please bare with me. The headers sorting uses the SortCommand which has a different set of arguments, so I can't use the same itemcommand event handler.

ex)

ItemCommand Arguments
(object source, System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataGridCommandEventArgs e)

SortCommand Arguments
(object source, System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataGridSortCommandEventArgs e)

If I were to use ItemCommands arugments to do the if check, I would not have the correct SortCommand arguments to do a sort. If the sortcommand used the same parameters as the itemcommand, I could do the if statement because the sorted headers and buttons would all go to the same event handler.

Well surely you will use two event handlers. But if I remember I did face this problem in past, datagrid was firing the itemcommand on sort so I put a check on top in itemcommand event handler if e.commandname <> 'sort' and it worked fine.

put a break point on sort and itemcommand event handlers and you will see that sort command is also going to itemcommand event handler.

Hi,

I have an ordinal HTML file. I want to get some form variables on my ASPX code, OK, and it works perfectly, setting the action of the HTML form to my ASPX page and submitting it, then, on my ASPX page, I can get the variables thought the Request.Form["varName"] method.
The problem begins when I have some characters with accent, like a city name here in Brazil, e.g.: 'São Paulo'. I just get 'So Paulo' in my ASPX page. I've tried UrlDecode, but without any help.

Does anybody know any hint that could help me on this case?

what is the problem, if problem is while saving to database then replace the ' (single quote) with '' (two single quotes)

Aw, my problem isn't that.

I meant when I have, for instance, 'São Paulo' in one input text on my htlm page, I can just get 'So Paulo' (without the 'ã') in my ASPX page via Request.Form. Did you undestand it now? Any hints?

I need to grab a variable from my Load event and use it my html

tag? Example:

Private Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
myHeight = unit.pixel(sdr.Item('height')
End Sub

Where is sdr.Item('height') coming from? What is it you are trying to do? If you are trying to place a javascript variable on the page you do that using ClientScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock

If you want to show asp.net variable in HTML Code then u can use viewstate for this. like...

viewstate("myHeight") = unit.pixel(sdr.Item('height')

then in html code simply...

<% response.write(viewstate("myHeight")) %>

I have Microsoft ASP.Net extensions for atlas.
When i run my application i get the following error:

Unknown server tag 'asp:ScriptManager'

Kindly, help me if you know about it.

When you run the application please close the master Page and Content page and try to run it.

hi all, i m enhancing web applicaiton in vs 2003,it uses the softartisian software for file uploading,i have made a function for file uploading,when that function is called from asp:button handler it works fine,but when i call that function from Ajax,it gives above mentioned exception,here is the code that is in function

hi
i wanted to ask that how can we retreive the values from a databse and write them on to the web form

i used the code below to just retreive one column, though the browser gave me a errr. it stated that message recieved from server could not be parsed.. exception.. and that too when i had exception handling in place..

any ideas..

first check if you are getting data in dread i.e datareader
then cast to string

Response.Write(dread["Firstname"].ToString());

i did try that and also checked with Console.Write(dread[0])

but when i tried with console... nuthing got printed.. though.. no error came..

also now how do i check whether dread has a value..
when i debugged.. it does follow the loop... though the VIsibleFiledCOUnt = 12
i guess that means it has data..

Hello

I want to make that the users from my Website can visit they're Profile over the websiteurl/username. I have read, that i have got to use url rewriting (into Application_BeginRequest)to handle this. Now if I want to use it this way, there must exist a Folder with the username and a Default.aspx File into it. Otherwise it will never reach the global.asax File and i can't change the URL.
Do I really have to create this Folders and Files or can i add something into the IIS or so?
I thought also about the possibility to change the 404Error File into an .aspx File and handle it there. Is this the solution?

I am using Visual Studio .NET 2003 to develop the application. My issue is that i had to generate a Word Report with password from an ASP.NET web application.
After much try i got the dll Microsoft Word 11.0 Object Library and with the help of which while trying to generate a word document with password from a application it was throwing a runtime exception.I had to imersonate the user as it showed an acces violation.

COMException (0x800a175d): Could not open macro storage.

When performed a search with this, i came to know the necessity of configuring the Word application of the server with DCOMCNFG - as setting the word to be run under interactive user mode etc. But that is very risky as listed in the links,

Can any body tell me how to solve this without using DCOMCNFG ?

I don't think you can solve it without using dcom config. This is a bad plan of attack though. Having Office installed on your server is bad enough. Opening Office with the ASPNet worker process is even worse. You don't want to do that.

Your best bet for sending word document to the client is to use SQL Server Reporting Services or Crystal Reports and exporting the report to MS Word Format.
