Hi there,
I'd like to setup a company intranet/wiki/document management(with free text search if possible), maybe blog system at my workplace. We will host it locally with whatever technology the system uses under IIS or whatever.
Will mainly use for centralising links to documents, showcase documentation around development processes, investment team processes, would like a firm directory (of users, photo, extn etc) as well.
Any suggestions on free software that will do this? I'd prefer if it was a c# open source implementation so I could alter or extend myself easily. Also if there is an addon/extension community with good volume supporting the system would be ideal.

I have just been reading on Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/sharepoint/default.aspx[^] so it can do all that and for free?
Is writing your own web parts just the same or similar to traditional asp.net development? Also is their a community/directory of web parts that do things, like a forum, photo album, whatever, firm directory?

I dont have much idea on that , but if you use Share point Portal you can acheive all this thing. but... it is not free .

As the other guy said, SharePoint is good but costly. You could try Dotnet Nuke. It's a good and popular one. Moreover it's open source.

i have a portal which was developed by my previous programmers
the task to maintain the portal is given to me

3)if task (2) is given to third party company then how can i achieve

Its my question in before 1 month ..
I solve the problem by using silver light media control toolkit.
download the control..
Use the control like other asp.net controls. so easly..
Weight for other good solutions...

You must be a bit behind on your course work, this was asked many times a couple of weeks ago. Search here on CP and you should find some help, but why should anyone do your course work for you? Will you share your degree with those that do the work?

did you try with AJAX. Put FileUpload Control into a update panel and make UpdateMode=Conditional and put other control in some other update panel . you can try it...
