Hello everyone!
this seems to be simple but does not work for me
I added an image control ro my asp.net page, now i need to choose the image to be displayed.
going to the imageurl property and openning a image select browser but I can't see any images , eve though I have placed images under app_data dir and also created an images dir under my project and placed images there as well.
It does not give me to nevigate in my computer only shows me app_data folder under http//localhost/myproject.
If anyone has an idea I will bevery greatful

i am new to this field, but i faced the same problem,
do one thing, in the source file (.aspx.cs) search for the code of the image control, there look for the url of the image, now change this url to the full path of ur image ....
u will see the image, as u do ctrl+F5 .....

Generally I create a folder called images, in the web site part of the solution.
When adding an image, it depends on what you need it for. If it doesn't have any functionality aside from decorational (i.e. part of the layout), just add a simple html img tag
<img src="images/my_image.jpg" alt="" />
This assumes that your aspx file is in the same folder as the subfolder images.
If you need it for the execution of some server side coding, then you add:
<asp:Image Id="imgMyImage" ImageUrl="images/my_image.jpg" runat="server" />
I'm assuming, that the image you want to add, is not within the solution, which is why it might not be showing.
Adding the folder:
- right click on the solution name and click on new folder
- rename the folder to what you want
Adding the image:
- right click on the newly added folder and choose add existing Item
- look up the image file you want to add.
After this, inside the application folder, you will have a new folder which will contain the image you need.

You can't grab images outside of your app project.

Eventhough I have disabled viewstate for the Page and the checkbox control, it is still maintaing the checked state after postback.

I have a SQL 2005 database which contains the path to Word documents and graphics. I would like to create a web site to display the files. I have never uses ASP .NET. What is the best way to get started learning how to create a simple web site? Any suggestions of beginner books or sites to visit?

I'm trying to create a basic server control to display and image but i keep getting errors. The control code below compiles fine but when i try to add it to a page it gives me errors. Can anyone help?

Yes i am trying to create a user control but i keep getting errors when i add the control like i described so i've tried with the control .dll and without and still get errors so i'm looking for suggestions as to what else i can try? Is there something wrong with my code even though it compiles?

Hi
We have been battling with page timeouts over the last week or to and decided today to get our heads around the problem! The problem has been highlighted by a reporting facility that if used to extract a wide date range can take several minutes to produce the report.
We discovered that the browser always displayed the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message after 63 seconds, firstly we thought this weird because it is the IE error page not a page rendered by ASP.NET 2/IIS 6. So after an age investigating on the net and finding all manner of registry settings that had no effect etc. we set up a test app that simply sleeps our test page for 5 minutes we then managed to deduce that the only setting of consequence was the <httpruntime> attribute of executionTimeout which did within reason do exactly as we thought that is displayed the ASP.NET script timeout error.
However, once the executionTimeout value exceeded 63 seconds we then received the IE page "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and this behaviour was replicated in some form in Firefox, Opera and Safari!
So next we tried running the same page via a remote desktop connection on our server, and guess what, it worked perfectly we then tried from another remote computer using a different ISP and that worked also! Hence we deduced from all this that the problem lies with AVG and after further investigation specifically AVG 8 Web Shield disable this little monster and all works fine.
Hope that helps somebody somewhere because it has been causing us sleepless nights for weeks!

I would like to know "how to stop vertical scrolling text in javascript after one iteration". What i have is the text that scrolls continuously, and i want it to make it stop at the top of the box.
How can i acheive this effect??

Yes i did think of that. However,
Marquee is only compatible with IE. Other browsers like FireFox cannot interpret the <marquee> tag.

Hi there,
I'd like to setup a company intranet/wiki/document management(with free text search if possible), maybe blog system at my workplace. We will host it locally with whatever technology the system uses under IIS or whatever.
Will mainly use for centralising links to documents, showcase documentation around development processes, investment team processes, would like a firm directory (of users, photo, extn etc) as well.
Any suggestions on free software that will do this? I'd prefer if it was a c# open source implementation so I could alter or extend myself easily. Also if there is an addon/extension community with good volume supporting the system would be ideal.

I have just been reading on Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/sharepoint/default.aspx[^] so it can do all that and for free?
Is writing your own web parts just the same or similar to traditional asp.net development? Also is their a community/directory of web parts that do things, like a forum, photo album, whatever, firm directory?

I dont have much idea on that , but if you use Share point Portal you can acheive all this thing. but... it is not free .

As the other guy said, SharePoint is good but costly. You could try Dotnet Nuke. It's a good and popular one. Moreover it's open source.
