Hi all,
I'm testing several "ruggedized" PDA type mobile computers from different manufacturers. Each of these devices have "hard buttons" on the surface of the device itself, but not a full keyboard. Annoyingly each manufacturer has a different API to enable the control of these buttons...
...given that my application may well have to run on all of these devices, does anyone know if these manufacturer API's are just wrapping some Windows calls, and if so, what those calls are?

I am confused with the sample StockPro, i just want to know the working flow of activesync desktop provider and its device side.
After install WM5 for PPC sdk(using vs2005 for development), the sample is under the folder
C:\Program Files\Windows CE Tools\wce500\Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK\Activesync\Activesync stock portfolio sample\Stockpor.
I do it follow the readme.doc, but no new item found in the activesync items list.
there are what i did:
1. using vs2005 compile the sample, we got devsetup.exe,devapp.exe,devsync.dll
and stockapp.exe, stsync.dll. I copied "devsetup.exe,devapp.exe,devsync.dll" to "\" after start PPC emulator successfully. and run devsetup, it is ok.
2. Disconnect emulator from "device emulator manager", the connect is again. The activesync will auto synch the objects it found. but there is no "stock" item in item list appeared in activesync status bar.
3. Run stockpor.exe on desktop PC, and choose the default data file "demo.por"
,then click synch button, ok the activesync is synching, but again with no new item show on the status bar.
Are there some fault operations in my condition?Why couldn't i see the new object "stock"! who can simply tell me how to use this sample, all above is just "my understanding"! thanks!
One day a pretty girl asked me:"Do u think you are handsome?" "I don't think so!".She gave a slap in my face:"Why lying?"...

Hello,
I have an issue with a pocket PC emulator (Microsoft Device Emulator V2 (2003)) and I need some help. I have a Pocket PC emulator here and I'm trying to make a software of my company work on it. (To make it quick, its a soft that allows us to manage our store's inventory) That software requires a barecode scanner in order to work. On the emulator, there's no, apparent, way to emulate such a device so I was wondering if there was a way to emulate a barecode scanner on the pocket PC. (Note: We don't want to use that scanner; data input will be made manualy. What we need is a way to make the soft belive there's a laser scanner installed on the pocket pc.
Thank you for your help,

Hi,
Any one knows any method to send an xml file to a web service from dotnet compact framework?
Thanks and regards,

Hi,
I don't think there's a specific method to send a file to a web service on .NET CF, since a Web Service is something you can develop.
You can develop your own Web Service that receives a stream of bytes and writes them down to a file. Once you include a web reference to that Web Service, you can use its' methods. For example:
WebService<br />
ReceiveFile(bytes[] bytesRead)<br />
<br />
LocalApp<br />
SendFile()<br />
Where the SendFile() method uses the web service ReceiveFile() method. You would need a Stream to read the local file on SendFile(), and a Stream to write on ReceiveFile().
I hope this makes sense.

Hi,
I'm working is windows mobile application development and we need to implement exception handling. We tried to implement it with the help oh MS Exception handling Application Block. But some people says it will affect the performance of the system because it uses reflection. Is that true? If yes, can any one suggest any other exception handling technique that does not use reflection?
Thanks and regards,
Sheeba

Unless your device manufacturer has an update you can't.
However, as of SP2, CF 2.0 can now be installed on CE4.2 devices.

Hi all,
I was wondering if the WindowsIndentity class was available in Compact Framework 2.0. I have checked and the namespace System.Security.Principal is not there.
My problem is that I would like to retrieve the username (if available) of the user that is logged into an NT domain. I have an equivalent application in normal Windows. In that case, the user can log into an NT domain if he is working via VPN for example or if he logs into the domain directly from a PC connected to the domain. I can then get the username.
Is there a way to do the same thing in Windows Mobile with CF 2.0?
Thanks,
Talal

Hi all,
I'm writing a console application for WM5 that uninstalls a previous version of my main app, installs the new version, and then restarts the main app.
The problem is, when uninstalling/installing the console app is closed and main app never gets restarted.
How can I prevent the console app from being closed before finishing?
I already used a form app to catch the Closing event and set the Cancel argument to true, with no effect. The form app still got closed down anyway.
--------- CONSOLE APP CODE ---------
Process cabinst = Process.Start(cabfile, string.Empty);<br />
cabinst.WaitForExit();<br />
cabinst.Close();
|
|
|
|
|
Windows Mobile 5's version of the cabinet install system checks for any programs running that are included in the cabinet and shuts them down. If the program doesn't respond to the close message it kills the process.
You'd have to make a copy of the program somewhere else, I think.

Mike,
How do I respond to the close message? Do I need to use PInvoke for this?
I actually copied the console app to a different location and started it from there, but it still shutdown.
I'm under the impression that all .NET CF-based applications are shutdown so I started a VC++ console application.
I'm not a C++ man so I'm having a bit of difficulty. However, uninstalling the previous version doesn't seem to shutdown the VC++ console application as it did with the C# one.
--CORRECTION
My first proof of concept seem to work, that is, the VC++ console app looked like it was still running after the uninstall but it was in fcat shutdown. Any help is much appreciated

Mike,
Thanks a lot. I've finally made it work by simply copying the console app to a different location and renaming it. The WM5 install system does not attempt to close it this way.
Thanks again

There's no built-in way to do it. I built a program to build self-extracting ZIP files, which automatically unpack any contained CAB files when they're run. Unfortunately this was for my employer, so it's their copyright and I can't share it with you.
We used to just build a CAB file with a setup DLL which would extract any contained CAB files, but Windows Mobile 5.0 no longer supports nested CAB installs (two CAB installs running concurrently).

I have an idea of programming a contact list with a different interface (rather than the default address book in windows mobile pocket pcs)
My concern is that how can I retrieve the contact list database that is stored in the pocket pc/sim card, and apply it on my new interface? In other words, I can view the contacts information in both my interface and also the default interface.
I am currently using Visual Studio .NET (C#) and SQL Server Mobile.
Please help! and thank you!

Hello,
I have a small issue regarding reflection and the Compact Framework 2.0.
I am working with:
- VS.Net 2005
- Compact Framework .NET 2.0
- Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC
So what I want to is a very simple thing:
int[] array = new int[ 42 ];
But I need this done with the help of reflection.
My first idea was:
int[] array = (int[])System.Activator.CreateInstance( typeof( int[] ), 42 );
But unfortunately this does not complie with the Compact Framework. (The overload for the parameters is missing).
My Second idea was:
System.Reflection.ConstructorInfo ci = typeof( int[] ).GetConstructor( new System.Type[] { typeof( int ) } );<br />
int[] array = (int[])ci.Invoke( new object[] { 42 } );
That compiles in both, the Framework and the Compact Framework, but in the Compact Framework the variable ci is null.
Alternatively I tried to get all constructors with:
System.Reflection.ConstructorInfo[] ciArray = typeof( int[] ).GetConstructors();
The result:
FrameWork: ciArray.Length == 1
Compact FrameWork: ciArray.Length == 0 <- Why
I am a little confused and I think that this is a bug. (But I don't hope so)
My question is:
Does anyone know another way to create such an array? (The type int should be replaceable with any other type)
Thank you in advance.
