"New High-Quality Free Fonts
From Smashing Editorial"[^]
July 20th, 2012
A review of around 35 free fonts, many of which are absolutely free with no licensing requirement, some of which, like Signika, are available through Google Web Fonts[^].
Includes Roman fonts, pictographic/symbolic fonts (fonts that, in days of yore, were know as "pi" fonts), special fonts for "display type" uses (big sizes, for titles, and headings, etc.): an amazing selection:
"In this selection, we’re pleased to present Signika, Plastic Type, Bariol, Alegreya, Metropolis, Typometry and other quality fonts. Please note that while most fonts are available for commercial projects, some are for personal use only and are clearly marked as such. Also, please read the licensing agreements carefully before using the fonts; they may change from time to time."
Some may not appear as "totally free," like Veneer, but if you read the user comments, and responses from Smashing, you'll find information like this;
"Please notice that the weights featured in this post are available for free download. In the case of Veneer, you just have to register on MyFonts and select the fonts (which both cost $0) and proceed with checkout. With Ranger, you can decide yourself how much you’d like to pay for the font."
best, Bill
