June 1, 2012: "Wolfram Alpha Answers Queries That Google Can’t" [^], by Amit Agarwall, on the blog: "Digital Inspiration"
Not quite sure if this really should go here, since it's a blog entry, not free software, but I found it quite useful information, and interesting, and don't know where else on CP it would be better to post. I'm sure our friendly moderators will delete it, if it's inappropriate, here.
enjoy, Bill

I just saw a reference to the NSIS[^] setup utility in the C# forum and thought I'd link it here.
There's an article on using it here[^] that looks decent.

I love NSIS. It can do so many things. I guy I know actually built a full fledged windows application with NSIS. Not sure HOW he did that, but he did. I don't remember the application name or where he put it online (or if).

Hi!
i'd like to introduce SqlCodeGuard - free addin for SSMS and VS2010.
It provides fast and comprehensive static analysis for T-Sql code (more than hundred rules), shows code complexity, code outline (with navigation) and objects dependencies.
Installation package and a little bit more information can be found at http://www.sqlcodeguard.com/
Your feedback will be invaluable
Thank you for your attention

SqlCodeGuard updated to version 2.1.4628
Major changes:
[+] added API to use in custom build process/tools/so on + Sample project
[+] added "issue groups" to "Select issue window"
also minor changes, fixes and so on.

This part reads definitely as an ad; consider creating articles explaining how to use your free software, and stop the marketing-activities: if your software adds value, we'll be using it without an explicit recommendation.

Yep, it is some sort of ad, i guess.
But if not - who'll know about the tool?
Anyway i don't think that such kind of app will be popular - from my experience - nobody cares about T-SQL code. And even if somebody cares - they will not use any tools.
Strange situation, i guess - ReSharper & StyleCop are so popular and widely used, as a bunch of other development tools and utils - free and paid.
But in SQL world (to be more specific - in MS SQL Server world) - such kind of tool are not popular at all.
However, this is more a philosophical question, not related directly to the utility or to this forum.
Sorry for my "crap".
Bye.

I don't trust tools who need to convince me of their value using "free" tools. It implies that your software is worth the amount of money available for ads - near zero.

Get the elephant out! Sorry, but I'm called whenever a LINQ-query does not perform. Strangely enough, TSQL ain't dead, and there's more people who know how to use the profiler than there were five years ago.
SqlCodeGuard wrote: But in SQL world (to be more specific - in MS SQL Server world) - such kind of tool are not popular at all.
Correct. Because there ain't that much tools that actually add value. TSQL is alive and kicking however, and there's a huge amount of SQL-developers that are looking for tools to help in their daily tasks.
Stop spamming, add an article that shows how your free software adds value
Today!
It'll be considered spamming if you're promoting a product in a forum that's primarily aimed at helping to create correct code. Brace for impact, and start that article. Even if it merely saves 5 minutes of time, some developer will be grateful it exists.

Yes, but almost nobody knows where to get SQL Profiler for SqlExpress - or how to profile it without profiler.
And yes - i also called whenever developers got troubles with LINQ/other modern framework/ORM/etc. That's why i'm sure - nobody cares 'bout SQL code
Eddy Vluggen wrote: Correct. Because there ain't that much tools that actually add value. TSQL is alive and kicking however, and there's a huge amount of SQL-developers that are looking for tools to help in their daily tasks.
IMHO developers are looking for tool which allows produce more sql code for less time but not tool to produce correct sql code, 'cause developers first of all are C/C#/etc developers and only in last turn - T-SQL developers.
Not sure if i'll able to quickly write article in english but if somebody interested - they can read auto translated review (as for me - seems like the article translated "good enough").
http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ru&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=ru&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fhabrahabr.ru%2Fpost%2F151179%2F&act=url[^]
HabraHabr - is something like IT-Tech news channel/forum/discussion board/etc.
ps call me snooty but as for me - "i can easily find errors in my database" - this is enough big value. I'm not a salesman or something like, i'm technician and benefits of tool are obvious for me.
But! I've worked on it more than 5 years and so what is obvious for me - is not obvious for other people
I guess i should find someone with unblinkered point of view to write review.

Reads like an ad.. I don't mind, as long as the adverted crap is for free. Seems that your stuff is available "for free".
Considered using the CP-license? It'd be better than no licence at all

f.lux makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.
f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you're in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again.
Tell f.lux what kind of lighting you have, and where you live. Then forget about it. F.lux will do the rest, automatically.

f.lux is a wonderful tool, unfortunately I have found it incompatible with my nVidia graphics card, a GE Force 7100 GS, in Win 7 Pro 64: specifically, I cannot adjust contrast or brightness in the nVidia TaskBar application without over-riding f.lux settings, and within f.lux, you have a very limited range of adjusting contrast or brightness.
This may be more problematic for me because I am using a large 32 inch, LCD tv/monitor (not full 1080p, native resolution 1366x768), driven by HDMI ?
I have to continually adjust the contrast and brightness settings depending on the application I am running, whether I am watching on-line video, watching a DVD movie, etc. You can be sure that I have varied every aspect of the monitor's internal setting possible before concluding there was no "happy medium" where its high luminance could be "toned down," without sacrificing readability.
I would assume f.lux does not work with other similar lower-end nVidia cards, but I am not sure. I cannot remember if I sent an e-mail to f.lux about this, or not.
Since it has been over six weeks since I last tried f.lux, and nVidia's driver has been updated, I should re-test.
Hope f.lux works for you: its interface is so nicely designed !
best, Bill

Hey! I made this iTunes overlay for full screen games. I won't lie, it isn't the fanciest piece of software ever created but I think it's not too bad and gets the job done.
The way it works is that the overlay stays on top of all your programs and doesn't steal focus upon click. It displays your current song and its artist, its total run time and position which shows as both text and in a progress bar, a scroll bar for iTunes volume control as well as your typical, common functions such as pause, play, stop, next, and back. It's operation is rather straight forward.
The controller is also customizable, allowing you to change its font, font size, font colour and position of the controller, as well as a lock so you don't accidentally move it mid operation. Might want to note that it's a bit laggy for movement though when iTunes has a song loaded as the players constantly updating due to the DLL's event handlers not working.
I realise this is an awfully big post and I apologize. :P But, if this is something you would be interested in, the program can be found here.
There currently isn't any website or any type of forum it can call home. If you know of a website that can be used for sharing programs (Nothing like codeplex or stuff where professional grade programs go, just something simple? ) please let me know.
Hope you enjoy the program! Let me know what you think. ^.^

Just run into Briefcase messing around with “read only files”.
Found out that there is another application which does function in similar way as Briefcase - called SyncToy.
Also found some dead links allegedly supporting SyncToy, so since I have knack to pick a dead horse, should I bother with SyncToy?
Is there another FREE application as SyncToy?
BTW – I had life long bad experience with anything MS calls "Backup", please do not bother with recommending that, OK.
Thanks for reading.
Cheers
Vaclav
