Three solutions, in decreasing order of sanity:
- Use a SELECT (dropdown) list.
- Use one of the many dropdown "menu" controls out there.
- Write your own DHTML dropdown control and attach it to the link.

Hi everybody,
I have a script in two pages. Page1 works fine, Page2: type missmatch = "return"
Here is the vbscript
Function CatchKeys()
ix = Window.event.KeyCode
If ix <> 8 and ix <> 9 and ix <> 37 and ix <> 39 and ix <> 46 and (ix < 96 or ix > 105) then
If ix = 27 then
Window.event.srcElement.value=""
End If
CatchKeys = False
else
CatchKeys = True
End If
End Function
I use it to filter user input in a textbox I create programmatically, therefore I use the following to enable the script:
CType(iCtrl, TextBox).Attributes.Add("onKeyDown", "return CatchKeys()")
This works just fine!, but it does not in Page2.
The only difference I am aware of if that in page two the textbox is part of a template column, and therfore the assignment is in its declaration.
<asp:TextBox id=Textbox1 style="TEXT-ALIGN: right" runat="server" ForeColor="#000000" Font-Name="tahoma" Width="70px" BackColor="FloralWhite" Font-Bold="False" Text='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container, "DataItem.Credit", "{0:n0}") %>' onKeyDown="return CatchKeys()" MaxLength="8"></asp:TextBox>
What I am not seeing?
Thanks a lot for your time and help.
Alex.

Why are you using VBScript, are you looking to block firefox users ?

Hi Christian,
Thanks for you time.
I friend asked me the same question! I just changed it to javascript and it works greate (including firefox).
Can I ask another question? I am trying to complete a project a.s.a.p. and I will most certainly need to add a lot of javascript voids and functions. Would it be possible for you to recommend on-line "straight to the point" javascript book or manual.
Once again, thank you very much for your time.
Alex (I won’t use vbscript this anymore.)

Hi,
I have a find page that has 3 textbox control and 1 button. My problem is that every time I wanted to search some record I will always hit the button so that it will do the event under the button click.
Is there a way to call the button_click event when the cursor was positioned on the textbox? For example the cursor was focus in one of the textboxes and if I will hit the <enter> key, how can I call the button_click event?

Do you think it's a proper interface at any case Triggering the Button Click Event on the Click of a TextBox. .NET doesn't provide TextBox_clcik Event.
Suggestion - Use Button Instead

Ok, when the cursor is positioned on the search textbox, instead of moving the mouse toward the button where the searchfunction is triggered much better if it just simply press the <enter> key from the search textbox and then the button_click event will be triggered.
I think this make sense, right? But the problem is I don't know how to do it?

I have an asp page wich submit two fields, title and contents. Now if user type single code ('), or semi-colon (;) and replace (the word REPLACE) then on submitting the form, page crashes.
Any help please..
Note: it is working fine on development server (win 2003) but crashing on production server (win 2000)

Could you specify "crashes"? Does the page look different? Do you get an error message? Does the web server crash?

well, here is the sample text in text area
....
1) you'll send your blood glucose level up higher than you expected; 2) you'll fill up but without the nutrients that come with vegetables and grains; and 3) you'll gain weight. So, don't pass up a slice of birthday cake. Instead, eat a little less bread or potato, and replace it with the cake. Taking a brisk walk to burn some calories is also always helpful.

when I post back, it displays page cannot be found (generic error) this is an classic ASP.
It does not even go to Request.Form section..
If I remove the single quotes and semi-colons then it works.. OR if remove REPLACE word then also it works..

Do you really get an http 404 error? That seems very unlikey, as the existance of the page doesn't change with what you send to it.
Could you quote some of the actual error message?
Have you disabled "friendly http errors" in the browser so that you see the actual error message?

Well one thing that I did is to remote into the web server and browse it locally. Locally it works fine. But when I am trying to browse it from outside, it crashes.

I guess it's no on the question about "friendly http errors", then. Fix that, so that you see the actual error message. Without a proper error message, it's just guesswork.

I have checked the configuration on IIS, and option to send detailed script error is selected.
As I mentioned before that it is working fine if I browse it from the actual web server using its IP. But it crashes if I access it from outside. I am also going to check with our firewall administrators.
Thanks for your help. -- the weird thing is that it is not giving any error, and this is really an old page in classic ASP, and I don't really know how to catch this exception in classic ASP...

Well, we figured that it is the firewall. When ever user types REPALCE, FIND, or any word that is also a command in firewall, along with any special character like single quote, semi-colon, or double quote. The firwall take it as command injection and block it. It looks weired. Our firewall guys do not want to disable command injection. They said that we might have to use the SSL on the server. I don't know how correct is that. But on SSL enabled server it works fine.
Its definitely not how the browser displays the error. It is the firewall because the firewall does not let me catch any error.

What kind of firewall is that? What is the purpose of blocking traffic like that? The firewall can't be access directly with an unauthorised request, can it? Is the protection (?) something that the "firewall guys" have come up with themselves?

A request is limited to 4 MB by default. You have to change the settings in web.config on the site hosting the web service, so that it can accept larger requests.
Also, sending it as a data table means that there will be a lot of overhead in the serialising. An array of custom objects should reduce the size of the request.
Another alternative would be to serialise the data yourself using a BinaryWriter and then encode it using base64.
Why are you sending so much data to a web service anyway?

Hi.,
I am having two servers on server-1 there is my Applicaton that copies the data from MS Access, creates the dataset and provide to the Webservice .On server-2 there is my webservice which accept the dataset and using sqlBulkCopy Fill Data into SQL Server. so problem is that all the tables having nearly 3000 records are successfully loaded , but the tables with more records are throwing exceptions. This is where I am getting the problem.
