Could you specify "crashes"? Does the page look different? Do you get an error message? Does the web server crash?

well, here is the sample text in text area
....
1) you'll send your blood glucose level up higher than you expected; 2) you'll fill up but without the nutrients that come with vegetables and grains; and 3) you'll gain weight. So, don't pass up a slice of birthday cake. Instead, eat a little less bread or potato, and replace it with the cake. Taking a brisk walk to burn some calories is also always helpful.
...
when I post back, it displays page cannot be found (generic error) this is an classic ASP.
It does not even go to Request.Form section..
If I remove the single quotes and semi-colons then it works.. OR if remove REPLACE word then also it works..

Do you really get an http 404 error? That seems very unlikey, as the existance of the page doesn't change with what you send to it.
Could you quote some of the actual error message?
Have you disabled "friendly http errors" in the browser so that you see the actual error message?

Well one thing that I did is to remote into the web server and browse it locally. Locally it works fine. But when I am trying to browse it from outside, it crashes.

I guess it's no on the question about "friendly http errors", then. Fix that, so that you see the actual error message. Without a proper error message, it's just guesswork.

I have checked the configuration on IIS, and option to send detailed script error is selected.
As I mentioned before that it is working fine if I browse it from the actual web server using its IP. But it crashes if I access it from outside. I am also going to check with our firewall administrators.
Thanks for your help. -- the weird thing is that it is not giving any error, and this is really an old page in classic ASP, and I don't really know how to catch this exception in classic ASP...

Well, we figured that it is the firewall. When ever user types REPALCE, FIND, or any word that is also a command in firewall, along with any special character like single quote, semi-colon, or double quote. The firwall take it as command injection and block it. It looks weired. Our firewall guys do not want to disable command injection. They said that we might have to use the SSL on the server. I don't know how correct is that. But on SSL enabled server it works fine.
Its definitely not how the browser displays the error. It is the firewall because the firewall does not let me catch any error.

What kind of firewall is that? What is the purpose of blocking traffic like that? The firewall can't be access directly with an unauthorised request, can it? Is the protection (?) something that the "firewall guys" have come up with themselves?

A request is limited to 4 MB by default. You have to change the settings in web.config on the site hosting the web service, so that it can accept larger requests.
Also, sending it as a data table means that there will be a lot of overhead in the serialising. An array of custom objects should reduce the size of the request.
Another alternative would be to serialise the data yourself using a BinaryWriter and then encode it using base64.
Why are you sending so much data to a web service anyway?

Hi.,
I am having two servers on server-1 there is my Applicaton that copies the data from MS Access, creates the dataset and provide to the Webservice .On server-2 there is my webservice which accept the dataset and using sqlBulkCopy Fill Data into SQL Server. so problem is that all the tables having nearly 3000 records are successfully loaded , but the tables with more records are throwing exceptions. This is where I am getting the problem.
Thanks,

Hi !!
Yea! I have set the maxRequestLength ="2097150" now the data is flowing across and all is fine , only concern is speed so I am trying to compress and decompress at respective ends.

Hello, I hope this is the right place to post, but anyways, here goes. I current have a forum, snitz, in place, but am having an IE specific problem. Basically what happens is, I have a page that drops a cookie which logs in the user. This all works fine, but once the cookie is dropped ALL post method data from forms become empty. Get works, and if I post data to a different site it works, so the break down is reading the data from the post. Here is the code that logs the user into the site:
<%
dim rsUser, conn
if len(Mid(Request.ServerVariables("AUTH_USER"), Instr(1, Request.ServerVariables("AUTH_USER"), "\") + 1)) > 0 and not strLoginStatus = 1 then
set conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.CONNECTION")
set rsUser = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.RECORDSET")
conn.Open strConnString
rsUser.Open "SELECT m.M_PASSWORD FROM glbPermissions p INNER JOIN FORUM_MEMBERS m ON p.id = m.M_FITS_ID WHERE p.loginName='" & lcase(Mid(Request.ServerVariables("AUTH_USER"), Instr(1, Request.ServerVariables("AUTH_USER"), "\") + 1)) & "'", conn
if not rsUser.EOF then
strDBNTUserName=trim(Mid(Request.ServerVariables("AUTH_USER"), Instr(1, Request.ServerVariables("AUTH_USER"), "\") + 1))
strEncodedPassword = rsUser("M_PASSWORD")
if strSetCookieToForum = 1 then
Response.Cookies(strUniqueID & "User").Path = strCookieURL
else
Response.Cookies(strUniqueID & "User").Path = "/"
end if
Response.Cookies(strUniqueID & "User")("Name") = strDBNTUserName
Response.Cookies(strUniqueID & "User")("Pword") = strEncodedPassword
'Response.Cookies(strUniqueID & "User")("Cookies") = Request.Form("Cookies")
if fSavePassWord = "true" then
Response.Cookies(strUniqueID & "User").Expires = dateAdd("d", intCookieDuration, strForumTimeAdjust)
end if
Session(strCookieURL & "last_here_date") = ReadLastHereDate(strDBNTFUserName)
strLoginStatus = 1
end if
rsUser.Close
conn.Close
end if
if Len(Request.QueryString("target")) > 0 then
Response.Redirect "login.asp?" & Request.QueryString("target")
else
Response.Redirect "default.asp"
end if
%>
All the previous code does is create the cookies. The variables are declared on one of the included pages. Once this code is executed, nothing works. I have created a simple asp page that just reads posted data which does not work once I use the above page:
<%=Request("test")%>
Before I log in, the above code will echo everything in the box, but after I log in, it receives nothing. I have tested this log in feature on firefox, and it works fine, but on ie, it just refuses to work. Hopefully someone can shed some insight onto this, because I've been at this for 2 days, and have made no progress.

If your code works in FF then your problem is most likely to do with your security/privacy settings in IE. AFter all, the server-side code runs on the server (really!) and doesn't care what browser is making the call.

Hey Fred,
Thanks for the response! That was exactly the problem. I am using NT Authentication on only one page, while all the other pages are public access. Initially, I thought it was my code, but after looking at everything carefully, I realized that it was something to do with the authentication. If you could shed some insight as to why this would happen, it would greatly be appreciated. The current setup is a public viewalbe URL with one file using NT Authentication (hopefully that makes sense).
I've been googling around, and it seems there is a registry fix for this, but I cannot find it anywhere, and all the links that I have found are broken. Here is a page that I recently found: http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread54999.html[^]
