You have to write javascript code for that. Onmouseover event just call a function which sets the new source for the image.

Here is the complete sample code for that:
function roll_over(img_name, img_src)
{
document[img_name].src = img_src;
}
<A HREF="some.html" onmouseover="roll_over('but1', 'icon2.gif')"
onmouseout="roll_over('but1', 'icon1.gif')">
<IMG SRC="icon1.gif" WIDTH="100" HEIGHT="50"
NAME="but1" BORDER="0">
</A>

Hi all. I was just informed today that our web developer is leaving in about 30 days. At the moment, I program our Point of Sale programs and he works with our intranet/email/webpages. We are going to work on geting me up to speed on his work. hta I need from you all are THE BEST tutorials on ASP/ASP.net and web development.
I thank you in advance.
PS - My programming backgroud: TAS Database 3.0 and 5.1, C# Windows desktop apps. I dabbled in HTML a little but never had time to work in web development.
Also all the web pages are written in VB ASP....haven't touched VB in quite some time.

Run away. If he codes asp pages like any other asp dev that i've met, you'll be consigning yourself to days of ploughing through spaghetti code with half baked ide's to help...

To start with, you should find out what the web pages are really written in. ASP VB is not an environment that exists.
If it's ASP, it can use either VBScript or JScript, where VBScript is by far the most common.

Sorry for the loose lingo..It is VBScript. I have helped him in a few projects and looks to me for programming logic, so I am somewhat familiar. I just need to sink my teeth into it. And I do not have time for mediocre, bad prcatice books. Lord knows I have enough of those.

Well, I don't have any good literature in mind, but perhaps some expert advice about VBScript programming can be useful:
Program VBScript as if it wasn't. It invites to writing sloppy hit'n'run code where you mix data types without really caring what happens, but you don't have to do it that way.
There is no type safey in the language, so you have to keep track of the data types yourself. Use prefixes for variable names to specify what data type they should contain, and make sure to stick to it, and you will avoid a lot of problems.
Put Option Explicit at the top of every page. It forces you to declare all variables (which makes them faster), and it'll give you an error message if you mistype a variable name, instead of quietly creating a new variable.
Try to put a bit of structure in the pages. First gather the input data, then get what you need from the database, then create the output. Try to separate the code from the htlm markup as good as you can, and it will be a lot easier to follow and maintain. It's also a lot more like the way ASP.NET works, so the transition (that you probably will be doing sooner or later) will be easier.

Yeah..Thanx for the input. I used to get on him about not using Option Explicit and not declaring his variables correctly. Also, it is all spaghetti code. I have had some experience in VBA, but never wrote a full program in VB/VB.net or developed a web page.
So that's why I am looking for a great tutorial. The best one's I have read in my life have been books that start with a simple app and make that app grow into an complex application with simple user nterface. Describes every thing you need to know and put that knowledge into a real worl application. I have so many books that just give you snippets and does not show you how to harness the true power of the langauge.
But thanx for the advice

I have a legacy ASP web application that needs to be integrated into a new website. Unforutnately, it will take too much work to rewrite it from scratch and too much additional testing. The web app in question is a question / answer session. It basically an online wizard the is dynamically updated after each input.
I'm planning on using AJAX to grab a part of the original page and put it inside a placeholder div. The challenge comes in when I need to do a postback to the original page (pass all the user input values back). The postback needs to occur when the "next" button is clicked. After the postback, the next wizard page needs to be grabbed and parsed.
[Edit:] I forgot to mention that it would be super simple to just use a frame but our goal is to make the transitions nice and clean: using frames is not an acceptable solution. [/Edit]
Any suggestions and tips are welcome. Thanks guys.

If its using .Net 2.0 you can convert the page by just copying and pasting.
Check out the AsyncControls Suite.

Heh. Copy and pasting isn't going to work for me. I need to go with the AJAX solution.

Are you using AsyncCOntrols Suite? It comes with a tool that converts all your pages by just copying and pasting them.
best regards.

I don't need to convert to ASP.net. The goal is to use AJAX to sort of "screenscrap" the side-by-side legacy code into the new PHP based design.

I have a page that is one column top to bottom, fixed width. If the page's content runs longer than one screen then everything is perfect. However, if the content is shorter than one screen the page does not stretch all the way to the bottom of the screen. I "fixed" this by making the background image look like the bottom part of the colum.
The problem is, now I want to add a footer and it looks silly to have the footer half way up the page while the "column" continues below it. In IE I can set html,body,#wrapper { height: 100%; } then #Footer {position: absolute; bottom: 0px} and it puts it at the bottom on every page. In the other browers (FF and opera) this obviously does not work and just puts the footer at the bottom of the screen (so if the page is longer than one screen the footer is in the middle of the content).
Is there anyway to have this work in FF and Opera?

Try using "valign: bottom;".

</code>Hey,
I am trying to create multiple jscript input fields, once a user clicks on a button.
Basically the click on a button and a new set of input fields is added (many of these could be made, its the users discretion.)
Im having problems.
here is some of my code.
<code>
<script>
var cfields= new Array();
var x = 0;
function showFields()
{
var divID= 'results';
var output='';
output+= '<div style="border: 1px solid; width: 151px;padding: 3px;" id="announcements"><input type="text" value="URL"><br>'+
'<input type="text" value="Headline"></div>';
output+='';
document.getElementById(divID).innerHTML = output;
}
///////////////////////////////////////
//
//////////////////////////////////////
function newField()
{
var foo = new showFields();
cfields.push(foo);
alert(cfields);
x++;
}
</script>
<body>
<!--<a href="#" onClick="showFields();">Click here</a>
<a href="#" onClick="newField();">new Field</a>-->
<br /><br />
<table>
<tr>
<th><p>Email Generator</p></th>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>
<div style="border: 1px solid; width: 151px;padding: 3px;"><input type="text" value="Date"></div>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<th align="left"><p>Announcements</p></th>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>
<div style="border: 1px solid; width: 151px;padding: 3px;" id="announcements'+x+'"><input type="text" value="URL"><br>
<input type="text" value="Headline"></div>
<div id="results"></div>
</td>
<td valign="top">
<div style="border: 1px solid; width: px;padding: 3px;" align="center"><input type="button" value="+" onClick="showFields();"><br>
<input type="button" value="-"></div>
</td>
</tr>
</code>
I tryed to create a new array and stick a new instance of the function into it.
This is not working. Someone please help me.
