Hi all,
i'm looking for sample code which allows volume control
from different "Wave" sources. Intended use: Media player
is playing wav or MP3 and I want to silence (not completely
mute) other app's eg. Windows sounds, Messenger.
I think it should be possible to store volume settings per
process and a direct sound filter takes care of how to mix
or which volume to apply based on the originating process
name.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks!

Get vista. Per app volume control is one of the new features.

How about instead of just saying you need source code you specify what you have and where you are stuck then someone might be willing to help you.

This is big business these days so finding free, GOOD, source code isn't easy.
I do this (realtime media streaming) for a living....I can tell you it can be done with Windows
without using any 3rd party libraries or codecs. It's all in the documentation
The Platform SDK is your friend!
Sorry I was no help!
Mark
I'm still in release from beta mode but when I get trough that I'm pretty sure any articles I
write will be on this topic.
p.s. I agree with CleAkO - if you're stuck on something particular then post a question in the
forms here!
"Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot?
Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. It's a dumb question... skip it."

thanks allot... i will start with my friend "The Platform SDK"

An AJAX request would avoid this.

oops I already posted this in the Web Development forum before I saw this forum .... sorry, but here it is again (hopefully in the correct forum this time)
"Hi - I am new to this forum and (perhaps because I didn't look hard enough?) I couldn't find a forum devoted simply to AJAX. Is there such a thing and, if not, would it be possible to have one?
I know that AJAX involves related technologies that are probably spread around the various forums on their own, but I feel it would be helpful to bring them all together under the heading of AJAX?"

AJAX is just a small subset of the web development umbrella. Now even thought there are dedicated forums for other sub classes of web development it does not mean that every strand needs one, only the most important (Like PHP). You will find that people in the Web development forum can answer any of your Ajax questions?
By the way this is the wrong forum. It should go to suggestions.

AJAX is JavaScript and XML which again comes to Web Development.

Hi,
I have a java background and I am trying to build a windows application using .NET as it has better looking graphics! I want my application to have a very similar look and feel to the new "Windows Live Messenger" client. Is there an API or SDK/Toolkit that I can use to get started which can save me the time to build something like that? Can someone please suggest to me what exactly I need so I don't waste time "re-inventing the wheel" and re-use most of the code that has already been written by .NET coders.
I think I need a copy of Visual Studio to do my .NET development in? I need my application to be exactly like MSN messenger but just on a single desktop, so no web services or ASP.NET etc...just pure Windows Desktop App!
Any help, pointers or directions would be more than appreciated!
Cheers,
.NET Newbie

If you are creating a personal project you might want to start with looking at the microsoft express editions of Visual Studio. The last time I checked they were free and give you everything you need. I know there are restrictions for applications that are turning a profit, but these are great tools for learning Visual Studio languages. Also, they have some pretty good learning tutorials accompanying the express site.
If you come from a Java background I would definitely look at C# as it resembles java very closely. As you work with it you will get a better feeling for the rules and syntax differences.
Hope this helps
