Hi Surendra,
Surendra Vishwkarma wrote: ...how can er read and write processor cache using MFC?
As Dan stated, you probably won't be able to 'read' or 'write' the cache per se.
Surendra Vishwkarma wrote: How we can get the size of processor cache?
If I recall correctly, inline assembly and CPUID. I think you will have to decode the extended features flags to get the size, cache associativity, etc.

You did not ask that . Take a look at TLS, IPC, etc. They can use Shared Memory.

I do my programming on a seperate pc
with no access to the
outside world except for
a flash drive and cd drive.
--Is it possible for me to
update its XP to SP2
with downloads from this
computer?
-Thanks

You do not need internet access to update XP to SP2. You just have to have the entire installer on a CD or some other drive.

This[^] page allows you to download the entire service pack at once. That'll probably allow you to burn in onto CD and install it anywhere without internet access.

Thank's for the link, it worked and is all good.
I killed bios i while back and don't trust
many updates(I even got a progress bar).
Thank you, as i can continue coding on
a 'new ' pc.

Hi Thista,
IE6, SP1 is more difficult since the 500 KB setup (ie6setup.exe) is a web installer. Below is the trick. It saves the setup files locally, for running at any time.
Jeff
"S:\InternetExplorer6SP1\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

It depends on the language that your professor wants you to use. If he didn't specify, then use whatever you're familiar with. Although something like this would probably require C++ and/or Win32.
aurorae128 wrote: How can this possible to program windows application.
Since this is a class project, all I can advise is that you try googling it.
Trinity: Neo... nobody has ever done this before.
Neo: That's why it's going to work.

Hi there,
I've created an application that use ComPlus distribution (Client/Server Application). When I connect to a PC with windows firewall it ask me if I want to unlock the program accessing the network. Once I’ve unlock the program it creates a 'Com Surrogate' acception in the firewall settings. My problem is that if I delete that acception the Windows Security Alert dialog box does not pop up again when I try to connect to that PC, and the client PC obvious give me an 'Remote Server Machine does not exists' error. How can I get the firewall to ask me if I want to unlock the program again?
Thanks, Werries

Goto Windows Security Center -> Firewall -> Exceptions and delete the correct Program/Service from the list.

Neo: That's why it's going to work.

I did remove it from the exceptions list, and that is my issue, why doesnt the Windows Firewall Unlock dialog box pop up again?

It doesn't show you dialog again, because you created rule (disable your application). If you removed this rule from firewall rules list, it would ask you.

I have a LAN in which a machine, say X, has some shared folders to 'everyone'.
Also the machine X is password protected.
Is there a way to access all the folders of such a password protected machine on a local area network..?
Can anyone help .....
If there is no password on the machine , then all the folders can be accessed using "\\MachineName\c$"
But is there a way to access the password protected machine ?
|
|
|
|

the machine is password protected means it is locked by password ?.. if so ... u can access the share if u have rights to access it.
If U Get Errors U Will Learn
If U Don't Get Errors U Have Learnt

Ya the machine is locked by password...
Thats what I want to know whether I can access a machines folders although I have not been given the rights to access them ??
|
|

If you haven't been given access rights, then strangely enough you can't access them :P
Wierd that

OK ...Now I will tell u the real story. One of my companions knows the way to do the trick..
And he is not ready to share it with me ...
So the mystery becomes even more mysterious ...Thats y I thought of posting it out here thinking that someone vud have a hint to it ..
So u too keep searching for the hidden treasure

If you don't have access rights to a folder then you can't access it!
There isn't any trick to bypass the checks otherwise most other security in the OS would be useless, you'd be able to change any file you wanted.
Some accounts (such as the administrator) automatically have access rights but thats not a trick ... thats just having the correct access rights.
|
|
|
|

You can still use the admin shares (driveletter$) when the user has a password set, it just means when you try to access it you'll be asked to authenticate.
This is why you should always use a password, otherwise anyone can access your files.
You can't access the admin shares without authenticating, the point is it's supposed to be secure :P

Agreed that I can still access the folders using admin shares (driveletter$)..If there is a password , I will be asked to enter the password ..
But I want to know - - Is there a way to access the resources of a password protected machine although I have not been given the rights to access them ...neither do I know the password ..

|
|
|

No, there isn't. There is no "trick", other than having an account that has the correct permissions.
