Hi Colin
|Colin wrote
Invoking a message box from the DAL is highly inappropriate. You should have zero user interface code in there. To do otherwise would break the concept of abstracting away the Data layer away from the presentation layer.
You are right. So its that i should Fill the dataset and Trap the user input from the BLL. it makes sense, after all thats where its Supposed to Happen. let me do it that way.

What sort of errors?
In the Following code am declaring a module level dataset through a BLL instatiating from DAL. i wrote this code like this .
Private mdsprops_lis As PropDAL.dssearchlis
And i wished it would look like this
Private mdsprops_lis As ProBLL.PropDAL.dssearchlis
but when i try that it gives me Exception, i think it has to do with the way i have designed my DAL and my BLL, but am looking at it, and am open for Suggestion.
Thanks

Hi
Has any one out there used crystal with sql server to generate reports? I have been trying to get my code running that passes my login info and password to sql automatically. I have followed the instructions in the MSDN to set up these reports and one of the variables which I know I have declared is simply not being picked up.
The code I ahve been making use of is as follows
Imports CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine
Imports CrystalDecisions.Shared
Imports CrystalDecisions.ReportSource
Public Class Form1
Private Sub configurecrystalreports()
Dim myConnectionInfo As ConnectionInfo = New ConnectionInfo()
myConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = "Northwind"
myConnectionInfo.UserID = "limitedPermissionAccount"
myConnectionInfo.Password = "1234"
Dim reportpath As String = Application.StartupPath & "\" & "northwind.rpt"
myCrystalReportViewer.ReportSource = reportpath
setdblogforreport(myConnectionInfo)
End Sub
Private Sub setdblogforreport(ByVal myconnectioninfo As ConnectionInfo)
Dim mytablelogoninfo As TableLogOnInfos = myCrystalReportViewer.LogOnInfo
For Each myTableLogOnInfo As TableLogOnInfo In [myTableLogOnInfos] ' vbstates that I 'have not declared mytablelogonInfo.
myTableLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = myconnectioninfo
Next
End Sub
I have gone over the instructions in the MSDN several times and I am still getting the same error.
What am I doing wrong, or is there an easier way of doing this that is not using the wizards?

Is that the difference, maybe?

I don't understand the question
Ganesh RV wrote: can i use a static method in abstract class?
I wasn't sure, but it took 5 seconds to type one into the compiler and build it, so yes.

A base class is a base class, all sorts of different classes can have the same interface. So, use the tool that suits.

Hi...
i am not exactly getting what you are trying to do... I will tel you from what i understood...
If u want to truncate the blank spaces from begning or/and end of a string you can use trim...
Eg:
dim a1 as string
dim a2 as string
a1 = " test string "
a2 = trim(a1)
this will store "test string" in a2 and spaces will be removed
may be this will be of some help...
If not plz describe what exactly you want
Good luck

ok
thank you
tell the solution please

String.Replace(" ","") should do it.

hi i think u got ur answer in the other post...
u can also use split to split the string into many by a defined char or something but that will be just too much and a long way round

Hai all,
i wonder if anyone know how to use ShellExecute command in VB6 to open another form which is made with VB.Net 2005
I already find out how to open VS.Net Webpage using this:
Private Sub Command1_Click()
Dim dUrl As String
dUrl = "http://server/apps1/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=2"
ShellExecute hWnd, "open", dUrl, NILL, NILL, Empty
End Sub
but, how to do similar task to open VB.Net form?
Would someone give me a clue please? Thanx 1st.

Just pass the path to the app as your argument.

Which path?
I mean, when we install the VB.Net application, we can't determine where the form path is, right?
Actually what I try to do is to call a report form in VB.Net that using SQL Report Service from a VB application(call it ReportForm)..so let's say when user click button [REPORT], the ReportForm will show up...

The form path ? What do you mean ? The only path is the path to the exe, you know where that is, right ?
If you have an app with many forms, there's no way to use a specific form from VB6. All you can do is run the program.

Hi
I need to build an app that does the following - I am processing about 1000 10MP files each week . . .
Read a jpg, inflate to bmp in memory
search the bmp row by row for a selected color -
when found copy and display a 300x400 pixel snippet,
determine the min/max x-y bounds of the homogenous color and save for later exclusion processing,
create a new bmp structure with this data,
allow a user to enter a string to append to the original file name (or OCR the pixels contained in the bounded area),
then save the new image, and
continue searching frombeyond the bounded area.
I think I need an api to read the jpg data into a bmp table - then do some straightforward line scanning, some calculations for determining the bounds of the extract area, then an api to an ocr routine, then an api to write the new file.
Does anyone have pointers to code snippets that will model any of these components
Thanks
Bob

The Image class does this. In fact, it's more work to have it in memory as a jpg/
rfrank5356 wrote: search the bmp row by row for a selected color -
My image processing articles show how to do this
rfrank5356 wrote: (or OCR the pixels contained in the bounded area),
That part is very hard, you won't do it, I don't expect.
rfrank5356 wrote: I think I need an api to read the jpg data into a bmp table
The Bitmap constructor will read a jpg, and it's a bitmap in memory.
rfrank5356 wrote: then an api to an ocr routine
There are OCR libraries for purchase if you really need this, Atalasoft have one and the libraries of theirs I use, are excellent.

Thanks very much - I've downloaded the sdk, looked at some of the references - still working - Is there a short vb code snippet I can grab that will allow me to get a single image and start rummaging - I have gone through a zillion (well - maybe a million) pages and no simple thing that I can grab - Once I have a start - I can usually make progress . . . Thanks Again !!
Best

1. Currently 1.1 is installed
2. I have downloaded 3.0 and installed it.
3. How can i switch to 3.0 without uninstalling 1.1
4. I am using visual studio 7.0

I don't think you can. 3.0 is really an addition to 2.0, if you don't have a 2.0 compiler, you're hosed.

Hi,
All the .NET FrameWork versions live side-by-side, installing one more does not affect the
others.
You will need a newer Visual Studio to work with a newer .NET; Visual Studio versions also
can coexist on a system.
AFAIK for 3.0 you would need either VS2005 plus extra's, or VS2008 (Orcas, beta).
