How do you change a the sender's datasource (a datatable) from with a MouseDown event handler procedure.
I have a MouseDown event handler that needs to modify dataTables depending on who the sender is what their datasource is. How do you find out the dataSource of the sender and set a local datatable to that datasource. The datasource will always be a datatable.
Private Sub lstBox_MouseDown(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles lstUsedSoftware.MouseDown<br />
<br />
Dim dtRow As DataRow<br />
Dim index As Integer<br />
<br />
Dim lstBox as Listbox<br />
lstbox ctype(sender, ListBox)<br />
Dim dt as DataTable = ListBox.DataSource.GetType ?????<br />
<br />
<br />
If index > -1 Then<br />
lstBox.SetSelected(index, True)<br />
dtRow = dtUsedSoftware.Rows.Find(lstBox.SelectedValue)<br />
blha blah blah blah<br />
End If<br />
'End If<br />
End Sub

Hey all..
Let me start off by saying..I am a COMPLETE noob with VB and coding in VB in general , but would like to start learning...thus here I am asking questions...so bear with me as I request IN DEPTH and detailed information.
Ok...I would like to make a simple app that shows a user his INTERNAL and EXTERNAL Ip addresses, meaning his WEB IP ( router ) and INTERNAL IP ( network card ).
I would just like to make a bare bones simple app that looks something like this.
Internal IP = 192.168.0.1
External IP = 24.13.23.224
I am currently using Visual Studio.net 2003 for my coding...so anyone who can help with the code using studio.net 2003 would be greatly appreciated.
Also...I know its probably asking alot....but could you please explain how I would do it from ground up...step by step
(For example )
Step 1 READ THE FREEKIN MANUAL....lol
Step 2 Launch VB - Create a new project
Step 3 Name Form blah blah
Step 4 add this code
Step 5 save project
Step 6 build project
Step 7 Try out project and see if it works
Step 8 Leave me the hell alone...LMAO
Again...I am completely new to coding in VB, but have knowledge of BASIC and generalized coding...so I can atleast follow along...I DO know where the ANY key is...
Also...if you dont mind..can you please provide the code needed for EXIT...meaning..you create a menu on the top of your app...it has a FILE option that when clicked expands a drop down menu that I added EXIT to shut down the app...well...EXIT dont work with no code...lol
So All I need is the code for that...I can handle implementing that much.
Thank you VERY much ahead of time
Peace 4 now...4 NOW !

Your machine can have multiple NIC's and multiple IP addresses per NIC, so this isn't really that trivial.
On top of that, you can't get your site's external IP address from anything on your machine, since it doesn't know anything about what's going on outside of itself. THe only thing that knows what the WAN IP is is your router. How you get that IP address varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, so there's no generic way of doing it.
You're right, it's asking WAY too much of a forum to get the step by step on how to create an application like this. I would suggest picking up a book or two on VB.NET and starting with that.

I appreciate your honesty when replying that it was asking too much, as I had assumed from the start.
I DO have MULTIPLE vb.net .pdf books that I try to use as refrence...but they only cover theroy and not examples of actual code and usage.
Is there any specific book or .pdf book you might suggest that does indeed have actual CODE examples, maybe like a COMPLETE breakdown of all code etc.
Besides that...again I ask...can somone atleast maybe post the code and its usage for EXIT ?
I thank you for your reply.
UPDATE
Nevermind the code for EXIT...just found it...for those who dont already know...which I am SURE you do...lol, here it is
Application.Exit()

Hello everybody,
I am a new and beginner to VB.NET environment, I created a window form user control and added to extra class when I trying to debug my code I got this message.
“A project with an output Type of Class Library cannot be started directly
In order to debug this project, go to the Debugging tab under configuration settings in project properties, and set the Start Action to Start External Program or Start URL. Alternatively, you can add a non-library project to this solution that uses a reference to this project and set it as the startup project.”
Thank you very much

Like it says, you've created a class library, which cannot be started. You need to create a new project, of type windows application. This needs to be your startup project (right click on the project name and set it there ), which means it will run when you start debugging. Such a project can consume ( i.e. use ) your class library, which is how you'd test a class library.

Thank you very much Graus, I have one more question while I was creating my project I renamed a class couple times then I got this massage “LengthWidth' is ambiguous in the namespace 'LenghtProject'.” I was trying to instantiate a class in other words trying to created object of “LengthWidth ” class { Dim compNum As LengthWidth = New LengthWidth(0, 0)}.
I looked up the Fully Qualified Names but that did not help. Could you please help me?

KoshinMohamud wrote:

that means the compiler cannot find out which one of the several LengthWidth it finds in different Namespaces of the project.
use instead MyNameSpace.LengthWidth ...
you can find the default namespace of your project in the project properties...

Just like Christian said, create a second project, a Windows Forms app, that you use as a test environment to test your control.

You should call that class from windows form code then execute that class which u did create.
or u should create nre winform project and begin good-coding

Hey there.
I am having a problem in that on my web form hitting the enter key is equal to clicking the submit button on the webform.
I have a series of text boxes on the page that the use enters in transactional information and I would like the enter key to either jump to the next text box or do nothing.
I know with a windows app I would use the Keypressed method, but the webform control obviously is missing this method.
How do I go about fixing this anyone?
Thanks.

One, your question belongs in the ASP.NET Forum.
Two, your right. That functionality doesn't exist in a web page. You'll have to simulate it using client-side JavaScript. ASP.NET is a server-side only technology that generates HTML for a browser, nothing more.
And no, I don't know exactly how to do it.

a HTML page from the pictures that are storrd in that folder. .
What would be the best way to do it in VB Net 2003.
Thanks

You need to iterate through all the images, and for each, generate HTML into your page. So, find all files with an image extension, and then build your HTML per image in a loop.
Remember to put the html in the same folder, or to use the full path to the image.

How would I write the code so that when I select a Option Button to change that values that are listed in a List box based off the Option Button that is selected. Also to have it change each time a option button is selected.

Is it possible to open a printer directly connected to the "Lpt:" port on a Windows XP system? I have a form that must be set up exactly on an old dot-matrix printer, and then printed after filling in some values. I would like to open the printer and send ASCII characters to the device.
Is this possible???
Thanks

Thank you Dave, but I believe that sends the raw data to the printer via the spooler. I was to open the resource exclusively, send the character to control the print to advance so they can tear off the forms, then back up the device to get ready to print the next form. So some how I want to connect to the printer with my application.
Thanks again,

Cute, but you're not going to get at the hardware directly on an NT Kernel machine. Well, not without writing your own Ring 0 .DLL.
The other code that "worked under VB6," will work, but it will also go through the spooler too.
