The solution is MUCH too long to post here. You'd have a better chance at looking at some existing examples, or maybe using an existing module. Google for "VB6 Registry" and you'll come up with tons of examples. Google Results[^]

Hi,
I have 2 windows form . both for startup based on some condition but i donno how to change startup form at run time. I just know that the form which has sub Main method can be used as startup only .
plz guide me in this regard .

Have you tried adding a Module to your code?
Then you can shift the "Sub Main" code into the module, evaluate the condition, then launch the appropriate form.

Omnipass is software that comes with the APC biopod fingerprint scanner. This program can differenciate between password fields and none. This carries over to most software programs and the web. I recently completed a program that requires you to login with a password and i would like to login with the Omnipass software. But the Software does not recognize my form as having a password field on it. I just want to see if anyone knows what i can do to make omnipass recognize my program. Thank you

Since we can't possibly know abou the tens of thousands of controls and libraries out there, you're best bet is to ask Softex.

I've never heard of the product until you posted the question. Then it was a little matter of Googling. It looks like it's a pretty popular product for it's niche market. But that's your problem, it's a niche market product that doesn't have widespread use.

Well, we know less about this medical equipment than you do.
What sort of interface? Do they provide an API? What does their documentation say about writing software for it? Do they give examples? Do they have their own support forum? (That last question may be your best route for an answer)

Here is a datagridview on the winform, which connects to a dataconnector and a dataset.
Now if I edit the cell values and want to save the changes into the database.
How can I do?
Thanks!
|
|

I don't know if there's an 'automagic' way of doing it, but if you step through all the rows in the grid, you can check their properties to see which ones have been added or edited. From this, you can create database calls to update your database. I use SQL Server ( I notice most VB users seem to use Access ), and that means I can write stored procedures using OpenXML, which allows me to create an XML document that describes an arbitrary number of changes and/or new items, and then process them all in one database call. If you don't have that option, you can still build the SQL to perform the changes, just make sure either way that any text you pass in is cleaned to protect from injection attacks.

I doubt it, but who knows ?
AtcKit wrote:

TP_PID looks like a type to me. override is not available in VB6, VB6 did not support object orientation at all ( in any meaningful way ). In VB.NET, you can write classes, and they can derive from base classes. For example a Ford class can have Car as a base class, which holds methods common to all cars. If Car has a method that Ford wants to replace or add to, it would override that method.

You can simulate Shared functions by adding a Module to your project and creating the functions you want in there. Just remember to make them Public.

Hello,
I am trying to assign a class to another whose types are different. (please do not say ctype, it will not work)
Consider that the following class below
public Class time
public hour as byte
public minute as byte
public second as byte
end class
I want to assign a DATE to this class
e.g
dim i as new Time
i = Today.Now 'Time=Date
When I do that, I want the compiler to call a method, which will allow this conversation
e.g
Sub A_Sub(value as object)
if typeof value is date then
me.hour = value.hour
me.minute = value.minute
me.second = value.second
end if
end Sub
How can I do that? I think i need to use ExpandableObjectConverter class but not sure
Please help
Thank you
Best Regards

Apparently, VB.NET does not allow operator overloading ( C# does ). That's what google told me, anyhow. Operator overloading is the facility you need to do what you're trying to do here. If VB.NET does support it, please let me know, because otherwise, I'm going to tell every person who tells me VB.NET is the same as C# that this is one more thing that C# does and VB.NET doesn't. I hope for your sake I am wrong, because without it, you're basically screwed.

Christian is, grudingly, correct. VB.NET 2002 and 2003 don't support operator overloading, which is what your trying to do. This is no longer a problem in 2005.
The are ways around this little issue though, such as:
Public Class myTime
Private hour As Byte
Private minute As Byte
Private second As Byte
Public Sub New(ByVal value As Date)
Me.hour = value.Hour
Me.minute = value.Minute
Me.Second = value.Second
End Sub
End Class
Dim i As myTime(Date.Now())

BUSINESS OBJECTS CAN TAKE THEIR CRYSTAL REPORTS AND SHOVE THEM UP
THEIR ASS, ALONG WITH OTHER "BUSINESS OBJECTS". THEIR PRODUCT IS AWESOME
BUT THEIR SUPPORT IS GARBAGE. ANYONE OUT THERE THINKING ABOUT USING
CRYSTAL REPORTS, THINK AGAIN. I HAVE SPENT THE LAST 3 WEEKS TRYING TO GET
SUPPORT TO ANSWER ONE TINY QUESTION AND ALL I GET IS A LINK TO AN EXAMPLE EVERYONE,
IN THE FREE WORLD HAS SEEN, OR "USE THE VB IDE HELP". SO F!@#$ BUSINESS OBJECTS AND THEIR CRYSTAL REPORTS!!!!!!!
SORRY FOR THE NEGATIVITY, I HAD TO RELEASE SOME COMPUTER STRESS, AND WHAT BETTER WAY TO DO THAT THEN SPEAK OUT ON A FORUM.

trust me... many people feel your frustration. a few years back we developed a packing and shipping application in which we decided to use crystal to generate our packing slip. sometimes i would spend 3-4 days trying to get the data to display properly only to get the descriptive "General Error" or "Report Load Failed". This is, imho, the big problem with Crystal. The real problems are hidden behind these generic errors. At least that's my experience.
Eventually, if you are patient enough you'll get it.
Do you have a specific problem that you're trying to work through, or are you just speaking in general?
