Yes you can. There is a compiler that says that it will compile it too native code.

The native code compiler looks interesting, but I can't find any information about it other than the short blurb on their main page. There is no pricing or download information.

Same here. If they want us to buy it, they should give us a way to do it.

I'm not sure if I'm reading this correctly, but is trackXMLstr actually the content of the xml? If it is, you need to use the LoadXml function, not the Load function, which accepts the path of the xml file, not the content itself.

I used the socket functions provide by the winsock.dll into one of my VB projects and I had a strange problem. I couldn't find what it is.
Here's it is what it happens:
If I run the application in debug mode (from VB 6.0) it is working perfect. The problems appears only when I run the exe file. When I connect to server (I use the client application), the connection succedes, but after that the application crash with a system error. I use a timer that send from time to time something to server. This timer is set only if I get a valid connection to server. But I gues the problem is there, after the connection in the timer procedure.
Can someone, please, help me somehow? Any idea?

Hi
This is not a regular problem but still any one who know the answer is bigger then life.
Let say we have an access database file (mdb) with one table that called tblRecID with 2 fields: "RecID" & "Info".
"RecID" is auto number + Primery key + Index.
"Info" is simple text.
If we saved 2 records to this table then the next "RecID" will be 3.
Now let's delete the 2 records and the table is now empty again.
How can you get the current "RecID" that need to be 2 (for now) by code (maybe DataTable object) ?
Any one?

There is a SQL statement for setting "IDENTITY_INSERT" on or off. With it on, you can insert any legimate value you desire (it can't be a duplicate to what is there).
When you are done, turn it back off.
syntax
SET IDENTITY_INSERT [ database. [ owner. ] ] { table } { ON | OFF }
but you need either "owner" or "dba" the rights to the database.

Hello, I am going to programming to a finger print scanner. I am unable to get the sdk for the device. Does anybody know where to start to program to a usb device.
I can talk to the com ports with out any problems.. But I can not figure out how to talk to the usb ports..
Thanks

First, do you have the drivers for the scanner? If not, your going to need the low-level docs on the scanner hardware so you can write your own device driver. That's just to TALK to the device. You'll probably find those docs in the SDK that you can't get.
Next, you'll need the documentation on the command protocol the scanner uses. You have to know the language the scanner speaks. Again, probably in the SDK you can't get. Without these docs, your not going to know how to get the device initialized, send commands, receive and interpret responses, perform properly formatted data transfers, or whatever else the device needs...
Next, there are no native classes to VB or VB.net that allow you to easily communicate over USB. You'll either have to search the web to try and find any or have to write something yourself.
These would be good places to start:

Hello everybody.
I want to use the ioctlsocket winsock function to set non blocking mode to a socket in VB.NET.
I have to use this function because it seems there is no means to create a Net.sockets.socket object from a valid Win32 SOCKET handle (provided by a custom function librairy)
In my code, I alway Have SOCKET_ERROR after ioctlsocket call ... and lastError is set to 10022
Maybe my FIONBIO constant is not correct. Can someone help me ? tks
<br />
<br />
Private Shared ul As IntPtr = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(4)<br />
Private Declare Function ioctlsocket Lib "ws2_32.dll" (ByVal sck As Long, ByVal cmd As Long, <[In](), Out()> ByVal argp As IntPtr) As Integer<br />
Public Shared Sub SetNonBlockingMode(ByVal sck As Long)<br />
'Dim ui As UInt32 = UInt32.Parse(1)<br />
'Marshal.StructureToPtr(ui, ul, False)<br />
Marshal.WriteInt32(ul, 0)<br />
LastErrorValue = 0<br />
Dim iRes As Long = ioctlsocket(sck, 2147772030, ul) 'Valeur de FIONBIO sur mon PC = 2147772030<br />
If iRes = SOCKET_ERROR Then<br />
LastErrorValue = Marshal.GetLastWin32Error()<br />
Throw New Net.Sockets.SocketException(LastErrorValue)<br />
End If<br />
End Sub<br />

Hi there
I need to be able to store multiple XML files in a central location - like a database.
I'm aware that SQL Server has this option, but the people I'm designing this for aren't prepared to spend lots of money.
Any ideas for alternatives??
Many thanks
Dan

MSDE?
MSDE is the SQL Server engine - check the licensing first (there are restrictions on where you can use it, IIRC), but you should be able to use it and it costs a lot less or nothing.

Is there anyway to get to know the table primary field name?
The information I have is table name and record id of this table, but to form a SQL statement to select those records, I need to know the table primary field. Is there anyway I can get it?

Take a look at ADOX (Active Data Object Extensions, IIRC)

Dear VB.NET Forum,
I have just started my first programming exercise in VB.NET. When I try to run the project an error code come up indicating that Sub Main is missing in my project. Kindly explain to me what this 'Sub Main' is for and how should I include it in my project.

Ok, first of all, what project are you running? Is it a Window application? Or is it a console Application? Where is your entry point into the app?

Hello Nick
I am running a Windows Application Project. I have not programmed in VB before, and what I have is the latest VB.NET software loaded on my machine. I am trying to teach myself VB.NET, but too bad the starting point seems to be quite difficult. Can I teach myself the basics of VB using VB.NET?

Don't worry about it. VB.Net is quite easy once you get the hang of it
OK, regarding your question. In VB.Net, there are 2 possible points of entry in an application, A windows form, or a Sub Main. To set either one, go to your Solution Explorer, Right-click on your Project and choose properties. Look for the "Startup Object" properties and it's corresponding Combobox, which will list any "Sub Main" and windows form in your application. Choose any one to have your program "start" from that point.
