Use something like setDirectory() for all the unix commands.

Uh, no. You would only use that if you wanted to set the directory of the FileDialog object's window to be the specified directory, and only if you were using Java.

What you mean by creating a shell ? I would suppose that almost (or maybe even all) commands in the shell are just different executables.

that could be true... but i want to do it manually... and not by executables. I know they can but I choose to do it the other way so that I know how the command is implemented.

Back in DOS days, it had internal (i.e., those contained within command.com) and external commands (i.e., separate executables).

It is a daunting task, you know. Good luck.

Yes very true.
But consider a case where you are using third party library with such locks.

what are these locks you are talking about? Here is your first post that says nothing about them at all.

My dear friend,
Please read my initial post carefully. This entire discussion is moving around critical sections.

Ah, you mean Critical Section Objects[^]?
If so what does the "hot" mean?
vikrams wrote: "hot" critical sections in your code?
Reading that part of your post I in no way understood you were talking about Critical Section Objects. You might consider you are using text based communications, therefore you should attempt to avoid confusion. For example, you could have linked your "critical section" to a resource that specified what you meant, like I did. After all it is you that is asking for help, not us.

I need to write an algorithm for a game.
I have a list of questions a list of answers and another list of clues.
I need an algorithm to create random combinations of questions and clues, once the question is attempted the corresponding clue and answer becomes void and should not occur again for the next question.
I hope iam clear with the requirement!

HUH? What good are clues if they are randomly applied to questions?
Q: Who discovered King Tuts tomb?
Clue: The largest body of water in the state of Nebraska is lake Havaclue.

Ur right , i should have not said random combination of clues.
Its just combination of a questions and its corresponding clues.
But since this is a multiplayer game by 'random combination' i meant a players screen which is visible to the ones beside him/her should have diff a combination.
I hope now the requirement is clear!!

Can't you use rand() ?

I have a MFC app, within it I use SHA1CryptoServiceProvider() which is managed code. Now if I launch the app from within the IDE (via F5) it all runs nicely. However if I open up explorer and launch it through that it seems all my SHA1 calculations (computeHash()) fail. Everything else about the app works as expected except the hash checking.
I'm taking a guess here but I'm almost certain it has to do with integration of unmanaged and managed code. Why is launching it from within the IDE so different than launching it outside of the IDE. What am I missing? Have I forgotten to load something (dll?) that gets automatically loaded from with the IDE.
Any help much appreciated. I'm completely stumped.
