Create mutex and check to run vc6 exe. EnumProcesses can also help you to check running process.
Also if you are talking about inter process communication. you should use COM.

Using File Mapping you can both :
[1] achieve child - parent relationship requirement.
Parent will write some data in file. When child will run it will open the file and read that confidential data. If the data is as expected then it can run.
[2] also you can share data between two exes using file mapping concept.

I have an application that runs in User mode. One of the task this application does, requires administrator privileges. Is there a way I can temporarily give administrator privilege and then take it away?

Static libraries do not contain resources, you have to link resource files (.rc or .res) along with that library.

You would be having data in your data structure. You can plot one of them on the X-Axis and the other one on Y-Axis. In general time would be on the X-Axis and value would be on the Y-Axis. A value on Y-Axis would be corresponding to a value on X-Axis.

Yes that is true but you have to realize that since MS has merged EVC with VC comparing them makes sense only for older versions. Last version of EVC was 4.0 and it was released in 2003 i.e. before VC 2005.

In my program I take appropriate values from the user and then click a button to draw a circle on the same dialog box. However if I change the values and then again click the button to draw, my previous circle is erased and the new one is drawn. What I want is for the previous circles to stay there...

You cannot rely on previous drawn circles: you have to store all input values (using arrays, for instance) and draw all the circles each time the OnPaint event handler is called.

Get Ivor Horton's "Beginning Visual C++" (For Versions 6.0, 2005, or 2008)
They all have excellent examples on drawing (and maintaining) graphics primitives using MFC.
Too many goodies in that book to pass it up. At least if your serious about using OnDraw() in a view class.
