Are you using raw Winsock (sockets) or rather Wininet? If the latter, <a href="http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/vcmfc98/html/_mfc_cinternetsession.3a3a.setcookie.asp">CInternetSession::SetCookie</a> might just be what you're after.

There are 3 parameters:
URL,
name,
data.
As I understand, for cookie "uid" name is "uid", data is "somename", and what should I do for path and domain?
If path is "/", and domain is ".somedomain.com",
should I specify URL as "somedomain.com" or "www.somedomain.com" or somehow else?

Hi,
Is it possible to move process from one window station to another?
Here is the problem. I have service, which launches GUI application before any user logs into system. So, this GUI App works within its own window station. After user logs in I want to display the window of application on his desktop. How it can be done? I cannot change the GUI application, but I can change the service, which starts this application.

May be I get it wrong. SetProcessWindowStation and SetThreadDesktop do all changes for calling process/thread, which is my service. What I need is to change window station for the process, which had been launched by my service earlier.
The sequence I want to have:
0. OS loaded
1. My service started.
2. Service launched gui_app.exe
3. User logged in.
4. User interface of gui_app.exe appears on user's desktop.

Is gui_app.exe your product? If yes, you'll have to establish a connection between service and app, and notify application about logon. Application should call SetProcessWindowStation/SetThreadDesktop to appear on users's desktop.

No, that's the main problem. I cannot change the gui_app.exe, I own only service, which starts this application. It looks like there is no way to get what I need without reprogramming GUI application. Right?

Looking at the prototype of SetProcessWindowStation it seems that you have to execute it in the context of process to change. As last resort, you may try to search the MSDN for examples of injecting DLLs into all memory spaces of all processes.

Is it possible to create a checkbox list with icons preceding the text using WIn32 APIs only(no MFC) ?If yes can the images be updated dynamically ie is a columwise implementation of image and text be formed?

Yes, it's possible. You have two choices here:
a) use listbox control and owner-draw.
b) use listview control and use state images. Much easier, because you don't actually have to draw anything. The only difficulty is that listview has to be subclassed to handle clicks on checkboxes.
You can also use LVS_EX_CHECKBOXES extended listview style to get listview with checkboxes for free. The only problem with that approach is that it doesn't work on Win95 without IE 3.0. This limitation is becoming purely theoretical these days, however.

Starting with IE3, list controls support check boxes natively. Eran Yariv's article Adding Checkboxes to a list control provides more info on the subect. If you already managed to have list controls without MFC support, adding the check boxes thing shouldn't be difficult.

I experimented with checkboxes by using button class for window creation and SendMessage() calls.Since I am planning to write a generic code for both WinNT and WinCE,I wanted to know whether such a thing can be done without having to write my own class implementaion for checkboxes.
What restrictions does use of MFC place when I am trying to write a generic platform idependent code?

I'm afraid I don't quite understand the first part of your post. With respect to using a unified MFC code for NT and CE platforms, it is certainly possible and the burdens imposed by MFC here are usually just reflections of the intrinsic differences between the APIs of both systems. If you plan to write code targeted for CE and NT, remember that CE is Unicode-only, which means you're forced to use that pesky _T and TCHAR macros and the versions of the C run-time library string functions as declared in <tchar.h>.

I know this is a bit of a dumb question; but does C++ have an XOR operator 
If not, can anyone remember enough boolean algebra to create an XOR out of AND, OR and NOT?
I should know, I only studied this stuff about 2 years ago, but heh, why not Harness The Power Of The Web (tm)

^ is the bitwise XOR operator, whereas ^^ is the logical XOR operator. If you don't know the difference, feel free to ask
