That's a bad assumption! Your use could fail because it has a 'ê' in its name and the server translates it incorrectly.

Hi,
I have a question about static.
I have the following class:
public class Members
{
static public string Administrator = "A";
}
Because I would mark the variable Administrator as a Const, I changed the class to the following:
static public class Members
{
public const string Administrator = "A";
}
In my eyes, the behavior is the same in accessing the variable, only that you are not able to change the Variable.
Is this correct? Or do I need to use the keyword readonly instead of const?
Than I would have:
public class Members
{
static public readonly string Administrator = "A";
}
So, help me out by saying what is the best practice here.
Thanks.

The difference between read only and const is that one can be set in the constructor ( from memory ) A static class is syntactic sugar, the compiler just barfs if any non static elements exist in there. I use it, because it makes my intentions clear, but it really don't actually give you anything.

Hi Guys,
What I'm trying to do is to update a label as numbers are being inputed in a textbox.
The label(lblBalance) is to decrease, or increase, as the value of the textbox(txtAmount) changes.
lastEnteredAmount is a string obj that holds what was previously entered in txtAmount.
lblAmtMax is a label that holds the max amount that the user can enter.
I put the code snippet below in the keyPress event of txtAmount. But i don't get the required result. What am I doing wrong?
.<br />
.<br />
.<br />
<br />
if (double.Parse(lblAmtMax.Text) < double.Parse(txtAmount.Text) || double.Parse(lblBalance.Text) < 0)<br />
{<br />
lblBalance.Text = "0.00";<br />
txtAmount.Text = lblAmtMax.Text;<br />
return;<br />
}<br />
<br />
double diffce = double.Parse(lblBalance.Text) + (double.Parse(lastEnteredAmount) - double.Parse(txtAmount.Text));<br />
lblBalance.Text = diffce.ToString();<br />
lastEnteredAmount = txtAmount.Text;
Please help!

It's okay to validate the character input in the KeyPress event, but the info in the text box property txtAmount.Text is not changed until after that event. You probably want to validate the character entered in KeyPress, and if it is validated do the rest of your code in the TextChanged event.

It's your design, so you should know what you want to do.

is it possible to copy some files from a client to an unshared location of the server ?

No. You need rights and a network share (even the C$ one will do).

what if a client program sends the file to a server program... then the server program will be able to save that file on a local unshared part of the drive... wont it?

Hi,
I hope it's ok to post here, I have been learning C# for a few months now and I'm confident with the basic concepts. It's just that when it comes to starting my own projects from scratch, I find it overwhelming. I think it's the relationships and flow of the projects that I find difficult.
I was wandering wether there is a project diagram that I could use, showing the relationship and flow of a simple project? I would appreciate any help-even if it's to tell me I'm looking at the problem wrong
Thank you,
Han

This kind of this comes from experience of working on projects.
Best thing to do is get your self the source code for a medium sized open source project and read it. Once you understand it, contribute some bug fixes to get an idea of how it works. This will give you an understanding of the architecture. Do this for several different projects and gradually you will find you have a better idea of what types of architecture works where.
Patterns are quite popular, although I think sometimes they can be over used and abused, an understanding of common patterns can help. Maybe look for a good software patterns book. The Gamma et al[^] one is the one most people rave about. Haven't read it myself though.
Code Complete[^] also offers some good advice on the steps involved in a software project. This is a very good book and I definitely recommend it.
[Edit: I've just re-read your question, and realised you might be talking about the project itself rather than the architecture. If you mean you want to know about the requirements->design->implementation kind of flow then you need to read up about software engineering processes. Code Complete does cover this briefly too.]

hi,
Does someone know how to create an activeX control by its classId?
I wrote some code like this:
Guid classid = new Guid(strClassid);
Type oType = Type.GetTypeFromCLSID(classid);
if (oType != null)
{
object obj = Activator.CreateInstance(oType);
} but it doesn't work, the obj can be created successful,but it is system.__ComObject,if I try to cast it to some activex,it throws an exception.

Try some of the other overloads of Activator.CreateInstance(). There are about 10 or more.
