that is exactly how CodeProject works: you read some articles, study MSDN documentation,
google around, and try to implement what it is you need;
and then, only then, when you have a small problem we will be glad to help you.

OK, search for WMI on CodeProject, and read the first article you find. That will get
you started.
|
|
|
|
|
I have already used WMI and i obtained a lot of useful information, but i don't know, i don't find which is the table in which i can obtain these specific information which i have asked you.
|
|
|
|
|
My experience with WMI is limited, but:
This article[^] discusses many things, including user privileges.
There must be a way to list all available tables in WMI.
There recently have been articles on CodeProject about user privileges, TCP/IP ports,
.NET versions, and much more. Dont recall which of those were using WMI tho.
If you need specific help, you need to ask specific questions. From your initial post
it is unclear which you mean:
ports = serial ports ? USB ports ? TCP/IP ports ? what ?
updates = of what ? Windows ? .NET FrameWork ? Visual Studio ? Office ? Drivers ?
And whatever the assignment is, judging how extensive it is, and starting on time
are part of it.
Good luck.

|
|
|
|
Excuse me, i don't want to bother you. It's the first time i used this type of forums.
And i refered to TCP/IP ports, and updates windows.
Thank you.

I have to read HTML files in a project. I am using streamReader to do that but when i read the document I get all the tags etc with it.
Is there any way to only read the data (which gets displayed when u view the page in web browser) rather than the whole source.

May be this would help you
public string StripHTML(ref string source)
{
string result;
result = source.Replace("\r", " ");
result = result.Replace("\n", " ");
result = System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex.Replace(result,
@"<( )*script([^>])*>", "<script>",
System.Text.RegularExpressions.RegexOptions.IgnoreCase);
result = System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex.Replace(result,
@"(<( )*(/)( )*script( )*>)", "</script>",
System.Text.RegularExpressions.RegexOptions.IgnoreCase);
result = System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex.Replace(result, @"(<script>)[^>]*(</script>)", "");
result = System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex.Replace(result, "<[^>]*>", "");
for (int count = 0; count < technicalStopWordArrayList.Count; count++)
{
result = result.Replace(technicalStopWordArrayList[count].ToString(), " ");
}
result = result.Replace("&", " ");
return result.Trim();
}

Thanks
It works fine but I have 1 more question...
Is is possible to preserve href's
I could have tried it my self but I don't know any thing about regular expressions so I have to rely on u.
I just commented this because I don't know what it is...
for (int count = 0; count < technicalStopWordArrayList.Count; count++)
{
result = result.Replace(technicalStopWordArrayList[count].ToString(), " ");
}

Web services have a timeout. The default is like 30 seconds. There is a property off of the webservice called timeout. Set it to a higher number and you will probably not get a timeout.
When you use the development environment I believe some of these time outs don't happen.
Hope that helps.

Thanx Ben
First first i think it is timeout prob and i check it by changing the timeout property.
But it was the machine problem. It was running fine on other machines
Thanx for your kind response

One way to get it is by calling Environment.CommandLine
|
|
|
|
|
can u give any more information

MSDN on Environment.CommandLine states:
This property provides access to the program name and any arguments specified on the command line when the current process was started.
Unfortunately it also says:
The program name can include path information, but is not required to do so.
You may be better of using the Assembly class, maybe it is:
Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().Location

i am building a image gallery in ASP.NET. All images are placed in a specific folder and i want to show the thumb nails of all those image on the web page. Its all working well. Means that my page is displaying the thumb nails of all images that exists in the folder.
The problem arise when i copy the new files in the folder, then the new copied files are not being displayed by thumbs.db file. Thumbs.db file donot update itself when new files are copied in the folder.
how i can solve this problem that when ever i delete or copy images in the folder, the thumbs.db file updates itself???????????????

Hi everyone,
I need to know how I can lock a file if someone else is using it. Briefly, I have an application which allows users to view pieces of mpg (each has a unique ID) and attach relevant data to it - a translation if needed, brand/product info etc - and then saves the whole item (mpg + metadata) to a database including the path to the now-archived mpg.
The mpgs are played by clicking the appropriate row in a datagrid control which launches the mpg in a form with a media player control embedded into it.
The thing is, I need to be able to somehow lock an mpg so that if user A is busy with it then user B can not begin work on it at the same time.
All of the mpgs are stored on a central holding server which may have up to 20 people connected to it at any one time.
When a user goes to enter the mpg information, the initial media player window closes and transfers them to a data entry screen. This holds the unique name in view but its only existent on the form at this point, not on a database.
Can this be done? Sorry if I waffled, just wanted to give as much info as possible.
Cheers everyone
Scott

One thing you could do is put a flag in the DB to indicate that an MPG is in use and prevent other users from modifying it. This should if you can modify the database schema (like adding a column to a table).

Hi Le Centriste,
Thanks very much for the suggestion but the way the DBA here controls his database borders on the psychotic. By the time he considers the request and then (if?) actually actions it, I'd hope to be able to achieve the same thing programatically...
Any more ideas anyone?
