I doubt if it is possible as the user can drag app windows from monitor to monitor. I could be wrong though.

The System.Windows.Forms.Screen class and its static AllScreens property will allow you to get all the screens on your system. From there you should be able to use each screen's properties (Bounds, WorkingArea etc) to achieve what you want. I've never tried it but it should work.

I have one project with 5 asp page. In every page are 2 javascript grids. I need to save both grids(width of columns, while columns) in cookie.
Is possible? if so then how?

How to remember the position of the toolbar

I need to remember the position of the toolbar if the user has changed it.

Also every time I open the browser the tool bar should be showed in a new line.

for that I added the code

dbi.dwModeFlags = DBIMF.BREAK | DBIMF.ALWAYSGRIPPER;

In order to remember the position of the tool bar what shoudl I do. I tried this
dbi.dwModeFlags = DBIMF.NORMAL | DBIMF.VARIABLEHEIGHT | DBIMF.ALWAYSGRIPPER;

It is coming up fine in IE6 but it is not working in IE7. Also it is not coming in the new line.

Please help me in this regard

Listview, multiple import?

Hey everybody!

I was just wondering if anybody knows an easy and quick way of importing multiple files into a listview control? I know how to import just a single file. But, I'm not quite sure how to import multiple ones, and I couldn't find anything on google or msdn, it seems as though when i actually need help, google is NOT my friend lol.

A ListView doesn't have a collection of files, it has a ListView.ListViewItemCollection to which you can add ListViewItem instances. Each of those instances also has a ListViewItem.ListViewSubItemCollection. To add multiple items to your ListView at once, use the AddRange method and pass either an array of ListViewItems or a ListView.ListViewItemCollection. The same theory applies to each item's sub items.

How you create the above from a given file and it's attributes is up to you. Personally I would create a ToListViewItems method that takes a collection of files as a parameter.

Here is how it can be done using LINQ:

DirectoryInfo dir = new DirectoryInfo(@"c:\temp");
FileInfo[] files = dir.GetFiles();

var fileList = from file in files
               select new ListViewItem(file.FullName) { Tag = file };

listView1.Items.AddRange(fileList.ToArray());

Conversion, No.

You need to add a field to the table [EnglishName] and enter the name manually. I don't think there is a program to translate names to english.

I have a form which I am using as a progressbar and in the worker thread I am doing some long running background processing. As soon as I am done with the processing I invoke a function in the main thread so that the progressbar is closed.
The behaviour of this progressbar is modal, but at the time of its closing, I am able to click some links in the main form. Though it does not throw any error or cause any unexpected behaviour, I get to see the progressbar form's title bar, which should not be there. At design time I have hidden this title bar.
I want to remove this title bar so that it will not be visible in any case. or you can suggest some other solution as well. Please help.

I think I have configured log4net SMTP appender correctly

I know I've configured log4net appender correctly because after logging code executed successfully, I was able to found notification/logging email under H:\Inetpub\mailroot\Queue

The problem is, I don't know IIS SMTP admin well enuf these email always sit under Queue directory and never get sent out to my gmail account "myAddress@gmail.com"

Active Directory Class object for WEB application

Hi,

I have a program running in windows .net that looks for active directory information. Is there a way I can use the object Active Directory in VS 2008 for web application?

In windows you have the object from the toolbox under components but if you create program for web it's not there. any Idea on how to use it for web purposes?

There is no equivilent control in the Web Forms ToolBox. You just have to write the code manually using the classes in the System.DirectoryServices namespace.

I am a fairly good VB.NET programmer.(Please don't laugh) I have been programming in VB.NET for 2 years. I took C++ classes in college and love C syntax in general but never got into developing real applications so I am missing much of the important information I am sure. I have been scanning the job sites for a while and find that there are many less opportunities for VB programmers while there are many jobs for C# programmers. Can someone point me toward a good tutorial in C# and it would be nice if it was one that was for someone coming from VB to C# and at the same time understand that I do know VB and not teach me obvious concepts.

There are a lot of tutorials (actually MSDN documentation has a lot of them), just google for them.
But I would recommend to read Jeffrey Richter's "CLR via C#" book, it will not only give you the basics of C#, rather it will show you the guts of .Net. This is IMO one of the best .Net books around.

Andrew Troelsen's "Pro C# 2008 and the .NET 3.5 Platform" is also very good, but read Richter first Wink | ;)

Hello,
I am implementing search functionalities in C# windows form application. I want that the TextBox which accept the search text should persist the text when entered, and, whenever user types in next time, it should display the similar text as dropdown list.
It is very similar to what Google's search text box or Rediffmail's userID text box supports.

How we can implement it?

I thought the textbox in winforms had this by default, you just need to specify an autocomplete data source ?
