I'm planing a project to administrat a Windows Server.
The project is splited into 3 parts.
User Interface: a Windows application where the Users set all their properties to the Windows Server
Server Manager: a Windows service which manages a database with all setting
Server Admin: to execute the commands given by the Server Manager
the Server Manager has a database with permissions for each user or usergroup, it manages the communcation with the User Interface and the Server Admin.
the Server Admin is needed to execute all command, because some Windows Services, espezialy for the pre-COM-time dont work with .NET and need changes to be put into configuration files.
i.e. Apache
all application communicate over .NET Remoting (binary, not over HTTP)
Now it is nesseccary that the User behind the User Interface has only access to methods and objects, which are for him.
i.e. a user User1 has the right to add a VHost Alias into his part of the Apache-Configaration
where as the Admin has the right to read and write all setting incl. the settings of the user.
so the user has no right to see the ApacheConfigarationClass, only the ApacheVHostConfigartionClass
i thought of a mechanismn to control the right to create an object....
a next problem is to distinguish between 10 or more user logged in...

i'm trying to get a directx form to display as a child form in an mdi. i can't get it to run however. my reasoning behind this is so that i can have a configuration form and a directx windows up at the same time. then when i adjust the vales in the config window it updates the cooresponding values for the directx scene. i just can't get the directx form to keep rendering itself. here's some snippets, i hope you can help me.
when the MDI form loads...

In vb6 I used a the Heiricial grid control to display data. I have also used it in a few c# projects, but I do not like having to include the extra files in to the installation. Is there a way to use the standard datagrid to do this? The HGrid is easy to use as far as editing a record etc, and I would need the same things from a regular datagrid.

I have a windows form, whenever i click the button the app will start calculating. i need to schedule this app run everyday by using windows schedule task tool. The problem is when the app runs, the windows form opened but how i automatic fire button_click event so that the app can be run without my interaction. since sometimes user will need to run this app not at schedule time so i need to keep this button.
I am not sure anybody understand my situation but any suggestion is welcome.

I'm not that familiar with C#, so there's probably a better answer. The one that comes to mind for me though, is to put all the code from the button's click event into a separate function. That way you can call the function from the button's click event, or from anywhere else.
If I write code in my sleep, does that make me brilliant, or just a lazy programmer?

The button_click event handler is just a method that conforms to the EventHandler delegate signature and can be called directly.
this.button_click(this, EventArgs.Empty);
Alternatively, you could move the code to a separate method, and call that method from both the event handler and whatever other code is necessary. This would be the prefered method if there is additional processing necessary depending on how the method is invoked.

The System.Windows.Forms.Button class has a method PerformClick() that should do exactly what you want (if I understood your request correctly).
IIRC, PerformClick() doesn't create a click event when the button is disabled (that's what I'd expect).
Be careful when deriving from Button and setting ControlStyles.Selectable to false, though. In this case PerformClick() doesn't work either, even when the button is enabled.

 Hi, need to validate to see if the user is entering Half Width (Single Byte) Characters (Japanese KataKana) or Full Height (Double Byte) Characters and convert the string to either Single or Double Byte Characters as appropriate. And I need to do this in an ASP.NET application written in C#.NET.
I have tried using the

I check whether character entered by the user is of single Byte(hankaku) or Double Byte(zenkaku), using the following code.

You can input a single character and see the Byte Count using the above function as below:

I doubt, Whether it is possible to convert kanjis into single byte. Though english charactes written in Zenkaku(Double Byte) can be converted into Single Byte, Theoretically.
If You come up with the solution for the second[I mean conversion]. Please post it in the MessageBoard. It will be useful for others including me.
Do revert back, How far this could solve your problem.

I'm developing an application in VS.Net 2003 using C#, which uses Crystal
Reports.
My report connects to an Access DB.
Does anyone know how to reset the datasource at runtime? My app is currently linked to the datasource I specified at design time. This datasource will change once the app is installed on the client's machine.

Have you looked at the code in the C# sample from MSDN for Crystal Reports? I'm pretty sure the actual .rpt file changes at runtime for displaying which report, but I don't know about the actual datasource. I'm sure it has to be possible, because I know that most people making apps with CR aren't hard-coding the datasource names before distributing their apps. Anyway, if you haven't downloaded the samples, here's the link:

I am trying to figure out how i can make the generated typed datasets from VS 2003 us my dataSet base class instead of the System.Data.DataSet base class.
The generated code produce this:
public class AR_CustMaster : DataSet {}
I need the dataset generator to produce this:
public class AR_CustMaster : MyNameSpace.MyDataSet {}
I know i can go in the generated .cs file and manually change it but as soon as the dataset is regenerated, my changes are lost.
Is there any way to make the change permanent ?

When ur finished designing the dataset and u have it just as u want it, copy and paste the generated code to a new file. I dont think there is any other solution for what ur asking.

I am trying to format an integer to a string with leading zeros:
This works:
int i = 1234
Console.WriteLine("{0:0000000000}",i);
But what about make formats for new strings or saving in string variables ?
string strLine = new String("{0:00000}",i);
--> Cannot work caused by constructor parameter collision. By the way, var "i" is generic. So no solutions with constants and other literals.

Ok, lets look under the hood of what works:
Console.WriteLine(string,params object[])
which you are calling internally calls
Console.Out.WriteLine(string, params object[])
Console.Out is a TextWriter instance, so:
TextWriter.WriteLine(string, params object[])
Internally this calls
String.Format(String,params object[] args);
so finally in answer to your question this will work:
string strLine = String.Format("{0:00000}",i);
