It's an activeX document container that among other things can be used to host office documents. He's made a number of posts trying to find a replacement in the past.

Hi Don,
Yeah the purpose of this control is really great the idea of micro soft. But the problem is it has been given as an activeX control, which contains unmanaged code and contains security flaws in it. Thats the problem is. Thank you.

Hi,
I had developed shared add-in in visual studio .net 2003 as, project type is shared Add-in from -- other project\Extensibility project\shared Add-in type.
I had add references as dll in it using 'add references' it gives me three options as '.net','com','project' in that using com I had add references...
Same thing I had try on visual studio .net 2005 with the same project type, it gives me problem to add references as it shows only 'project' option in 'add references' and not 'com' & '.net' !!!
So how should I add references here??
Please help me!
Thanks,
Shyam

I'm not working at home, so I can't check it exactly but when I add references in VS2005I get a dialog with 3 or 4 tabbs, showing .com project or recently used (something like that). I also see a browse tab, where you just browse to the dll you like to use.
So, if this des not work for you, you overlooked something in VS or you have a serious problem with VS2005

Dear sir,
I have done the assembly registration and gac intallation in two steps, but I am getting error as
* Failure adding assembly to the cache: An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. *.
Please tell me what could be the reason, and where I might have done mistake. The steps I did are as below.
No. 1 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\SDK\v1.1\Bin>sn -p D:\Aleem\DSOControl1\DSOControl1.snk

Try this out,
Step 1 : Creating sample component
imports system
namespace BAJComponents
public class Sample
public function GetData() as string
return "hello world"
end function
end class
end namespace
Step 2 : Generate a key file
To generate the key file, issue following command at command prompt
sn -k sample.key
This will generate the key file in the same folder
Step 3 : Sign your component with the key
Now, we will sign the assembly with the key file we just created
vbc sampleGAC.vb /t:library /a.keyfile:sample.key
Step 4 : Host the signed assembly in Global Assembly Cache
We will use AL utility to place the assembly in Global Assembly Cache
AL /i:sampleGAC.dll
After hosting the assembly just go to WINNT\Assembly folder and you will find your assembly listed there.
Let me know if this helps.

Abhijit

Hi All,
I'm migrating a web application from .net 2003 to .net 2005.
I need to know what I have to change manually in each page before I make the conversion because when I use the conversion wizard,many errors are generated.
Thanks so so much

Mainly three things:
1. In the Markup replace "CodeBehind" with "CodeFile" int the Page directive
2. In the code file add the modifier "partial" to the class
3. Remove the control declarations in the code file. For example if you have <asp:Literal ID="Literal1" runat="server" /> in the markup, you don't need code like Literal Literal1 = new Literal() in the cs file.
Also there could be a lot of code-specific changes you might need to do, sometimes just warning messages. To give an example, you should replace Page.RegisterStartupScript with
Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript. The best you can do, is examine these errors one be one and possibly resolve them with replace.

Can anyone direct me to some good WPF tutorials that cover a conventional business type UI? Everything I can find concentrates on all the magic new media etc. features, and I just want a good, quick start on using XAML for porting our existing application.
I'm using VS2005 with the extensions.

You might look for the MSDN events if you are in the United States. I went to one while back that showed both WPF and how it would be used to make stunning applications (their example was the real estate business). Other than suggesting the MSDN events I can't help you much. Sorry.

A pupation is an insect in the nonfeeding, usually immobile, transformation stage between the larva and the imago.

Hi there !
I have quite a complex application, consisting of several UserControls, self-made and third-party dll libraries (imaging library from Leadtools).
I considered clickonce deployment and it seems to work fine, but only on Win-2k machines the application runs without any problem. Under Win XP there seems to be some problem with the imaging library, which must be security related. The application does not start because of some internal initialization of the imaging library.
The error is hardly reproducible, on some XP machines it also works, on others not.All user accounts where I tried to install had admin rights.
Can anyone give a hint ?

Dear Friends,
when I am trying to convert the DSOFramer com component as .net framework assembly, its giving the problem.
I used the type lib import tool at cmd prompt to do it as below

Hello there
Until today, I have been using VS 2003 / VC ++ without any problems for several years
Installed VS 2005 on my WinXP-SP2 machine (left all the default folders as suggested), then applied SP1 of VS 2005 without any problems… Then, converted my project to the new IDE using the wizard – no errors or any messages, seemed all OK:
BUT
1) Decided first to build an ANSI RELEASE version, all seemed OK except the application looks wrong, the tree control fails to create, the dialog background colouring is NOT there, all the buttons on my dialog do NOT process any messages, so to quit the screen I had to use ALT + F4, nothing else would work.
2) Attempting to build and debug an ANSI DEBUG version of my program, it seems the IDE can’t locate the VC DEBUG DLL’s and I had to copy those into my application folder… Strange – I thought the IDE should “Know” where these are located…
mfc80d.dll
mfcm80d.dll
msvcm80d.dll
msvcp80d.dll
msvcr80d.dll
3) Attempting to build a UNICODE DEBUG of my program, I get this error
LINK : fatal error LNK1181: cannot open input file 'lsvc8u.lib'
Searching for the file on my PC returns ZERO results, there is no such file on my machine, I did performed a complete install of VS 2005, and am not expecting anything to be missing…
4) On exiting my application, I get a crash with the message f:\sp\vctools...", I have no idea where is the “f:” drive designation coming from since I don’t have such a drive mapping on my PC
Looking at the Call stack, I get a “Strange” list – which I am sure my Application DOES NOT execute, so I figure somwhere there must be a corruption of sorts for this to come up. Looking at the bottom of the list, Ther is a call to a function MKGetFaxDateandTime() which I am sure it is NOT called anywhere.
Anyone has such experince???
Cheers
Alex

It is a way of saying that no matter how many times you run the app, it will only run once, only one instance of the app will ever be running.

The following code demonstrates the main concept:
class Singleton
{
private bool instanceExists = false;
private Singleton()
{
}
public Singleton CreateInstance()
{
if (!instanceExists)
{
instanceExists = true;
return new Singleton();
}
else
return null;
}
}
Singleton s1 = new Singleton(); //compiletime error, constructor is not public
Singleton s2 = Singleton.CreateInstance(); //success
Singelton s3 = Simgleton.CreateInstance(); //s3 will be null
