What’s new in this release?
We are pleased to announce the release of Aspose.Tasks for Java 6.8.0. This month’s release further empowers Aspose.Tasks users to render project data to multiple individual image files, which was not possible with earlier versions of the API. The setSaveToSeparateFiles method of the ImageSaveOptions class allows developers to save project data to separate files. In addition, the getPages() method of ImageSaveOptions returns a list of page numbers to save when saving Project layouts to separate files. OpenProj, also known as ProjectLibre, is an open source project management tool that can export project data to XML format. Previously, the Aspose.Tasks API lacked support for reading the output XML files. However, we are pleased to share that this month’s release supports reading XML files created by OpenProj. Rendering time scale information to output formats is already supported by Aspose.Tasks API. However, the feature didn’t include the time scale count information. This month’s release further enhances this rendering capability by providing the facility to set time scale count for a Project. The TimeScaleTier class’s setCount() method can be used to achieve this. This month’s release also introduces a new feature: configuring the Gantt chart view to display custom fields by default in Microsoft Project. Each time the file is opened in MSP, the saved columns settings are displayed to the user. This can be achieved by customizing a project’s table data. Below is the complete list of new features and important bug fixes included in this release.
- Print each/selected page of a Project to PNG/JPEG
- Option to read timescale data from source xml/mpp and make effective in output image/pdf file
- Configure Gantt Chart view by showing selected custom fields when opened in MSP
- Add reading support of XML files created by OpenProj.
- Investigate compatibility issue of DLL with Delphi Prism XE 1, with Visual 2010 or with RemObjects 3.0
- PrePopulate dates while rendering project data to PDF similar to MSP
- Option to set Timescale count
- Review and update project data reading/writing summary

Eight, the development of basic power system configuration steps:
Here is the E-XD++ Visual Component Library source code version of Power Systems enterprise application development basic steps:
1. The design of power system components required:
This step can be E-XD++ provides the professional component design ShapeDesigner application to design, this tool can directly be Microsoft Visio or ConceptDraw other professional graphics tools designed to power system components directly into (SVG file) come with use, of course you ShapeDesigner itself through the rich need to design the basic components of power system composite components. At design time, can easily canvas directly to the components designed by Copy, Paste way to the left of the component into the tool box, as shown below (Note: This ShapeDesigner the source code itself, together with the E-XD++ Official versions can be customized as needed):
When we design components of the composite components can also be a single definition of a number of sub-components to facilitate later identification and handling of the Key ID values that can later obtained directly by calling GetKeyID.
2. Design power system needs of the graphical interface:
E-XD++ provides a special interface design tools DiagramEditor, in this tool, we can easily design applications through the above ShapeDesigner various power system components needed to build a graphical interface. Interface in the structures, as required for specific components we can specify the Key ID value, the Key ID value for us in specific programs to control, for example, we can control the switch off and open, lights flashing and so on. We designed a graphical interface can be saved as a single xdg file, as shown below: (Note: This DiagramEditor the source code itself, together with the E-XD++ provides the official version can be customized as needed):
3. By E-XD++ visualization component library provides graphics integrated in Visual Studio's AppWizard (Application Creation Wizard) to automatically generate the framework code power system can be designed for the above We DiagramEditor xdg files into this program as a resource file, when we need to load a design interface when calling the following function:
LoadXdgFromResource (...); if we need to switch to the new interface, you can also call the function to load the new interface. Reference sample NetworkDemo.
4. External data collection we can View the Window class or classes of the timer to be collected, when the need to update the interface when the status of the components can be designed directly above us to get the Key value of the graphic elements or components sub-graph.
5. By overriding the appropriate virtual function to time a variety of transaction processing, for example, we only need to cover the CFOPCanvasCore class as virtual function to respond to button events:
virtual void DoButtonClickEvent (CFODrawShape * pShape, const int & nSel);
Nine, scripting support:
E-XD++ visualization solution provides a complete scripting support is available through VBScript or JavaScript to control any component on the canvas of the state, provided nearly 500 the default system control functions, the script will be with the program's source code be provided with the official version.
Description: The script solution will provide full source code can be customized any details, you can use VBScript or JavaScript to control any action of any shape on the canvas.
X. web solutions for power system:
The official version of the E-XD++ visualization component library provides a full graphical capabilities of the ocx control UCCDraw, this control can be done through the E-XD++ Library exactly the same function, this control can be developed directly on the web on the power system. Ocx with the other place is not the same as the design of our ocx source code made available. All functions can take it and then design and customization.

What’s new in this release?
We are pleased to announce the release of Aspose.Note for .NET 1.3.0. This new build enables developers to save OneNote documents to a Stream object. Developers can now pass a stream object to the Document.Save(Stream, SaveFormat) or Document.Save(Stream, SaveOptions) method. When saving to a stream, specify the save format explicitly. Please have a look at the help topics in the documentation section for Saving OneNote Document to a Stream, and Specifying OneNote Save Options. This new release fixes several issues, including the presence of duplicate pages in a PDF output file. We have also updated the parsing of styles based on new JCID structure. $100,000 USD up for grabs at PayPal and Braintree Sydney Hackathon
BattleHack, a global series of hackathons comes to Australia for the first time
Winners will compete in the world finals in the USA to be crowned The Ultimate Hackers for Good
Sydney, Australia: 2 July, 2014 - Leading global payments providers PayPal and Braintree will be hosting a 24-hour hackathon in Sydney on July 26 and 27, where developers compete for the chance to win a trip to Silicon Valley and $100,000 USD. The hackathon is part of the global BattleHacks competition that visits 14 cities around the world before culminating at the World Finals event in November.
During the Sydney Battle Hack, developers will be tasked with building a mobile application that solves a local problem of their choice and incorporates the PayPal API or Braintree SDK. Developers can compete as individuals, as a team or find people to collaborate with on the day, with a maximum of four people to a team.
The winner of the Sydney Battle Hack will be flown to the finals at PayPal’s headquarters in Silicon Valley to battle it out for the $100,000 USD prize and “battle axe” trophy. The Sydney judging panel for the Sydney Battle Hack will include John Lunn, Global Director of the PayPal Developer Network and influencers within the Sydney tech scene, to be announced in the coming weeks.
John Lunn, Global Director, PayPal and Braintree Developer Network said, “We are very excited to be able to bring Battle Hack to Australia and give Aussie developers a chance to wow us with their creativity and mind-blowing code. Battle Hack is designed by developers for developers. We see it as a way to reward the best and brightest developers. Additionally, we hope to change the lives of the winning team through the prize money we offer, whether it’s helping a sick relative like one of our Moscow winners did or building their own business.
“Unlike many other hackathons, we aren’t looking to take equity in their companies or influence their work in any way. We evaluate every app based on the quality of their code and the integration of our API – not the feasibility of their business idea. By helping developers monetise their ideas we’re not only enabling innovation, but we’re powering next generation companies that have the potential to be as disruptive and successful as Uber and Airbnb,” he said.
Last year’s Battle Hack toured 10 cities and drew more than 2,000 competitors globally. The winning team for 2013 was a team of Moscow developers that created Donate Now, an app that uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology and PayPal to allow anyone to instantly donate to a cause from their mobile devices. Instead of filling out lengthy donation forms, the app allows people to donate, whenever and wherever they see an opportunity for giving in their daily lives.
The prizes up for grabs at the 2014 Sydney Battle Hack include:
• 1st prize: Flights and accommodation to the World Finals in Silicon Valley, and a chance to win the grand team prize of $100,000 USD
• 2nd prize: PS4
• 3rd prize: Polaroid Cameras
• Early birds: The first 25 hackers in the door will receive a Leap Motion Controller
Details for Sydney Battle Hack:
Date and time: 8.30am Saturday 26th July – 5.00pm Sunday 27th July
Location: Luxe Studios and Productions, 279 - 283 Liverpool Street East, Sydney NSW 2010

Mountain View, CA – June 30, 2014 – Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE), the widely adopted platform for developing and running enterprise applications and Web services, has evolved significantly. A new white paper from WSO2 examines the Java EE specifications supported in WSO2 Application Server (http://wso2.com/products/application-server/), along with value-added features gained by migrating Java EE applications from a traditional application server to WSO2’s lightweight alternative.
Getting More From Java EE With WSO2 Application Server
The white paper, “Evaluating Java EE application migration and Java EE service migration to WSO2 Application Server,” explains how moving to WSO2 Application Server enables Java EE developers to leverage a number of platform-level features supported by the WSO2 middleware platform, including multi-tenancy, software as a service (SaaS) development, embedded API management, and real-time analytics.
Authored by WSO2 Senior Technical Lead Sagara Gunathunge, the paper begins by defining WSO2 Application Server and exploring how it promotes lightweight application development. The paper then reviews the Java EE framework, profiles and Web-profile specification, and it explores how WSO2 Application Server supports both the Java EE Web Profile (WP) specification and non-Java EE-WP specifications.
Additionally, the paper examines the advantages of migrating Java EE applications to WSO2 Application Server. It then concludes by discussing how WSO2 Application Server, together with other WSO2 products, can help enterprises to achieve a connected business in which processes are extended across employees, customers and partners.
The white paper can be downloaded at http://wso2.com/whitepapers/evaluating-java-ee-application-migration-and-java-ee-service-migration-to-wso2-application-server.

New Delhi, India, June 25 2014: When new legislation or industry regulation requires compliance changes to be made to an organization’s mainframe applications, 39% of CIOs on average choose to outsource application development and testing today. The US leads the charge, outsourcing an average of 62% of testing and development projects. Germany outsources the least at 26%, while the UK sits at 40%. That’s according to an independent global research study undertaken by Vanson Bourne and commissioned by Micro Focus (LSE: MCRO.L), which polled 590 CIOs and IT directors from nine countries around the world.
The Documentation Problem
Explaining the compliance challenge, more than half of IT leaders (55%) say that it is highly likely or certain that the original knowledge of their mainframe applications and supporting data structure is no longer in the organization. Similarly, nearly three quarters (73%) confirm that their organization’s documentation is incomplete. This lack of clear or up-to-date records poses a problem in identifying and making compliance changes to the right applications. In fact, 44% of CIOs confirm they lack the capability to do application compliance change work in-house.
Whether they outsource or not, almost all of respondents (98%) believe that the ability to demonstrate the resilience of their current mainframe environment is important, with 91% believing this ability will only increase in the future.
The Legal Benefit of Outsourcing
When outsourcing mainframe application development and testing to comply with new legislation, 60% of CIOs contractually pass the legal responsibility for data protection and privacy requirements to their outsourcing partner. A further 16% expressed a desire to do so.
Commenting on the research results, Derek Britton, Director of Product Marketing at Micro Focus said: “On-going legislative changes have resulted in an array of new compliance measures such as ISO27002, Basel III, FACTA and SEPA. In order to support compliance requirements, organizations need to change and update their core business applications. The complexities of missing code documentation, constrained resource pools and data privacy risks mean companies are frequently turning to the outsource market for this work.
“Contemporary technology can establish repeatable, effective steps for updating core applications, driving efficiencies in the compliance projects at every key stage,” continued Britton. “In doing so, organizations are able to more effectively balance lights-on and innovation efforts – either directly or via their outsourcing partner - enabling development staff to execute changes more efficiently, while managing the impact of the changes they make.”
###
Notes to Editors
The independent research survey was undertaken by Vanson Bourne in November 2013. It covered 590 IT decision makers in nine countries including UK (100), France (100), Germany (100), USA (100), Brazil (100), Australia (35), New Zealand (15), Hong Kong (15) and Singapore (25). The respondents were from mainframe organizations with 501+ employees, covering multiple industry sectors.

Freecode.com[^], a site which allowed developers to share their OpenSource projects, has gone stale by June 16 this year.
On their website, the Freecode developers have stated the reasons for the site's end:
- The Freecode site has been moved to a static state effective June 18, 2014 due to low traffic levels and so that folks will focus on more useful endeavors than site upkeep.
- The site contents have been retained in this static state as a continued path to access the linked software, much of which is on self-hosted servers and would be difficult to find otherwise.
- Developers seeking hosting or ability to promote their Open Source software should consider SourceForge, as much of the Freshmeat-listed software currently uses that site.
A group of german Freecode fans have launched an alternative, called tiny brain (accessible at http://tinybrain.de/[^]).
The idea behind tiny brain is the same as the idea behind freecode: Developers can post their (offsite hosted) open source project, and other developers can access it and get kind of a news ticker which provides them with the latest releases of Software projects.

Workshop will explore how to gain startup speed, reduce project risk, and enable new business models by implementing a DevOps PaaS
Palo Alto, CA – June 17, 2014 – In today’s hyper-competitive environment, successful teams cloud-source business capabilities and nimbly connect ecosystem participants across cloud environments. WSO2 Vice President of Platform Evangelism Chris Haddad and Gigaom Research Analyst Rich Morrow will co-present a workshop at Gigaom Structure 2014 on how a DevOps platform as a service (PaaS) can support these demands.
WSO2 is a Primetime Sponsor of the Gigaom Structure conference, which will run June 18-19, 2014, at Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco, CA.
Delivering at the Speed of Business Demand
The conference workshop will begin by discussing how infrastructure, processes, and team collaboration models must adapt to create cloud-based ecosystems that enable businesses to rapidly adapt to—and capitalize on—change. The workshop then will cover DevOps principles and PaaS characteristics that help speed IT solution development and delivery. Additionally, the workshop will explore how a DevOps PaaS enables faster phase execution, widespread accessibility, rapid grassroots innovation, and increased resource availability to IT projects. Finally, the session will examine how innovative WSO2 customers have deployed a DevOps PaaS to enable new IT models, reduce delivery time, and accelerate business agility.
The session, “WSO2 Sponsor Workshop: Gain Startup Speed with DevOps PaaS,” will be held 3:45–4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in Conference Room 4 at Mission Bay Conference Center.
About the Presenters
Chris Haddad, WSO2 vice president of platform evangelism, leans towards the “Dev” in DevOps. Due to many personal “works on my machine” and “bit decay” experiences, he is passionate about automated builds, infrastructure as code, iterative testing, and continuous delivery. Interest areas include understanding DevOps' value for developers, streamlining developer workflow, and accelerating agile, iterative delivery. Prior to joining WSO2, Chris led research teams as a research vice president at the Burton Group and Gartner advising Fortune 500 enterprise organizations and technology infrastructure vendors.
Gigaom Research Analyst Rich Morrow specializes in architecture, development and maintenance of large-scale mission-critical custom Web applications, and has an extensive background in building and leading extraordinary technology teams. Since early 2010, his consulting venture, quicloud.com, has assisted over 2 dozen companies with their Cloud, Big Data, and Web initiatives. Rich is also an expert in 3 tier Web system architecture / implementation (esp Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP or “LAMP”); database design and maintenance; software internationalization (i18n) and localization (l10n); OOD, design patterns; Unix sysadmin / security; shell scripting; DBA level MySQL.
Integrated Open Source Approach to the Connected Business
The WSO2 booth at Gigaom Structure 2014 will have experts available to discuss the synergistic, integrated approach of WSO2’s 100% open source platforms in addressing the demands of the connected business. They include the comprehensive WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware platform and WSO2 Enterprise Mobility Manager, as well as WSO2 cloud offerings that launched this week:
• WSO2 App Factory 2.0 cloud-enabled DevOps platform for managing the application life cycle and enabling continuous application delivery.
• WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0, the first comprehensive, enterprise-grade platform as a service based on the Apache Stratos PaaS 4.0 foundation released earlier this month.
• Beta versions of WSO2 App Cloud and WSO2 API Cloud Summer 2014 Releases, which are now available for developers to evaluate.
Significantly, all WSO2 solutions are built on the same fully componentized, OSGI-compliant code base. * Content structured as topics, combined with a top-level glossary, index and table of contents for quick information reference makes it easy for end users to search and find the information they need.
* Screenshots integrated with step-by-step directions in Flare enhance end users’ comprehension.
"Working with MadCap has really helped us improve our documentation for training purposes and make the delivery for every release more efficient,” Pat observed. “Getting ramped up with Flare was just as easy and quick as working with the tool itself. With an abundance of resources, from free webinars to online forums, we felt like we had a solid community of support to build with,” said Pat D’Ambrosio, BA Insight documentation lead. “I’ve become a complete cheerleader for Flare, and can’t wait to bring our documentation to the next level with MadCap.”
“BA Insight has built its success on empowering companies to transform the way they find and access information to increase innovation, improve productivity, grow revenue, and reduce costs,” said Anthony Olivier, MadCap founder and CEO. “We are thrilled by the superior training and search-friendly content that BA Insight is providing these customers with the powerful topic-based authoring and single-source publishing of our Flare software.”

WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0 adds WSO2 cartridges; inherits new Apache Stratos 4.0 capabilities for CEP-based real-time auto-scaling, smart deployment and partitioning policies, and more
Palo Alto, CA and Barcelona – June 16, 2014 – WSO2 today announced the availability of WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0 (http://wso2.com/cloud/private-paas), the first comprehensive, enterprise-grade platform as a service based on the Apache Stratos 4.0 PaaS framework released earlier this month. The launch supports the growth of cloud-enabled connected businesses that demand a PaaS capable of handling the disparate applications and tools used by companies, their customers and partners. The announcement is being made in conjunction with WSO2Con Europe 2014, which runs June 16-18, 2014 in Barcelona, Spain.
WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0 is built on top of the Apache Stratos 4.0 (http://stratos.apache.org/) PaaS framework, which features a cartridge-based architecture that enables developers to plug-in heterogeneous applications and service-oriented architecture (SOA) platform runtimes to take advantage of native, secure multi-tenancy. Significantly, providing multi-tenancy at the in-container level, it enables the deeper level of multi-tenancy required to support software as a service (SaaS) applications.
With Version 4.0, WSO2 Private PaaS adds significant new features inherited from Apache Stratos 4.0, including two industry firsts:
• Real-time auto-scaling enabled by complex event processing (CEP) for more powerful analysis of the runtime environment.
• Smart policies for deploying cartridges, auto-scaling, and partitioning.
“A year ago we donated our PaaS foundation to Apache to support the open source community in developing PaaS solutions that address the industry’s need for robust multi-tenancy and support for the heterogeneous environments that power enterprises,” said Paul Fremantle, WSO2 co-founder and CTO. “The result is Apache Stratos 4.0, which adds innovative firsts in intelligently managing cloud capacity and which we are proud to make available with the launch of our WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0.”
Expanding WSO2 Private PaaS Capabilities
WSO2 Private PaaS includes the WSO2 PaaS Foundation, which is an instance of the Apache Stratos PaaS framework; all of the pre-integrated, cloud-ready, and fully multi-tenant WSO2 Carbon middleware (http://wso2.com/products/carbon/) products; and cartridges for MySQL, PHP and Apache TomCat. Through the use of jclouds, WSO2 Private PaaS offers the ability to run on almost any infrastructure as a service (IaaS) cloud, including SUSE Cloud and other OpenStack-based offerings, VMware vCloud, and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2).
With Version 4.0, WSO2 Private PaaS adds several new and enhanced capabilities that are inherited from Apache Stratos 4.0.
Real-time auto-scaling based on multiple factors, which is enabled by the integration of real-time and rule-based decision-making based on WSO2 Complex Event Processor (http://wso2.com/products/complex-event-processor/) (WSO2 CEP). No longer are decisions made simply on the HTTP request queue length of the load balancer for a particular cluster.
Smart policies for auto-scaling, deployment, and partitioning. The auto-scaling and deployment policies can be used to derive a cloud service-level agreement (SLA) from the PaaS layer, such as maintaining 99.999% availability, which in turn benefits SaaS-layer applications. Smart deployment policies can be used for cloud bursting across multiple IaaS. Smart deployment policies also enable DevOps to define partitions and network partitions to control IaaS resources more efficiently.
Expanded load-balancer support. Load balancers can now be deployed as cartridges. Additionally, this enables third-party load balancers, such as HAProxy, to be used with WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0.
Additional Apache Stratos 4.0 features found within WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0 include:
• Addition of an Advanced Message Queuing Protocol (AMQP) message broker for loosely coupled communication among all the components, making the overall architecture more resilient and pluggable.
• New support cartridges based on Microsoft .NET.
• Use of Puppet to configure cartridges, making the process more efficient.
New WSO2 cartridges. In addition to the capabilities inherited with Apache Stratos 4.0, WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0 enhances integration by making five products from the WSO2 Carbon platform available as plug-in cartridges, which enables them to take advantage of auto-scaling. They include WSO2 Application Server 5.2.1, WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus 4.8.1, WSO2 Business Process Server 3.2, WSO2 Identity Server 5.0, and WSO2 API Manager 1.7. Other WSO2 Carbon products, not yet available as cartridges, continue to run as core services within WSO2 Private PaaS.
Availability and Support
WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0 is available today. As a fully open source solution released under the Apache License 2.0, it does not carry any licensing fees. WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0 is backed by a world-class technical team in which the experts that helped create the software provide support, leading to direct and immediate access to the people with in-depth knowledge of the middleware. WSO2 service and support options (http://wso2.com/support/) include evaluation support, a special QuickStartSM consulting program, development support, and production support.

Newest release of WSO2 App Factory strengthens PaaS and tenant-handling functionality, streamlines the development process, and expands insight into the application life cycle
Palo Alto, CA and Barcelona – June 16, 2014 – The cloud and API management are enabling new models for connected businesses. As a result, enterprises are seeking greater control of the applications being developed with those APIs—within their organizations and across their customer and partner networks. WSO2 delivers significant new capabilities to address this demand with WSO2 App Factory 2.0 (http://wso2.com/cloud/app-factory/). The announcement is being made in conjunction with WSO2Con Europe 2014, which runs June 16-18, 2014 in Barcelona, Spain.
WSO2 App Factory 2.0 is the latest release of WSO2’s shared, elastic, and self-service enterprise DevOps platform, which enables multiple project teams to collaboratively write applications, manage the application life cycles, and provide continuous cloud delivery. Robust life-cycle management and governance ensure compliance with IT, corporate and government policies. Meanwhile, an API Store, provided through integration with WSO2 API Manager (http://wso2.com/products/api-manager/), gives developers easy access to both internal and external APIs. With Version 2.0, WSO2 App Factory 2.0:
• Runs on WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0, which launches today and is the first platform as a service built on the Apache Stratos 4.0 PaaS framework (http://stratos.apache.org/).
• Expands capabilities for handling tenants with lazy loading and improved Jenkins build to improve performance.
• Enables developers to fork their own code repositories and builds.
• Provides executive dashboards via integration with WSO2 Business Activity Monitor (WSO2 BAM) (http://wso2.com/products/business-activity-monitor/).
“More enterprises are seeking to gain a competitive advantage by extending their business capabilities across a connected ecosystem of internal teams, suppliers, channel partners, distributors and customers,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, WSO2 founder and CEO. “We are building on our commitment to these organizations with WSO2 App Factory 2.0, which adds more robust PaaS capabilities, streamlines the development process, and provides greater insight into the application life cycle—all through an open cloud-based platform that lowers barriers to integration, provisioning and interaction.”
Comprehensive, Open Approach to Enterprise DevOps
Version 2.0 is the latest release of WSO2 App Factory, which delivers an open source, open standards approach to cloud-enabled enterprise DevOps and application life-cycle management (ALM). It provides teams with a unified, controlled platform to manage tasks across cloud portals for development, testing, production, and continuous builds in order to provision quality assurance environments, run continuous integration tests, and continuously promote and deploy software assets across development life-cycle environments and production. With WSO2 App Factory, developers can easily create and administer projects, automatically build applications, and continuously deliver applications.
The ability to impose policies and standards between life-cycle stages with WSO2 App Factory means an application won't progress from one stage to the next before meeting regulatory and quality standards. Meanwhile, the API Store provided via WSO2 API Manager integration lets developers access APIs published in-house or connect to external APIs, such as Google APIs, through the WSO2 App Factory user interface (UI). This fosters cross-organizational collaboration and encourages reuse, speeding time to market. Additionally, App Factory’s numerous dashboards make it easy to manage and monitor projects throughout the life cycle.
WSO2 App Factory is built on—and integrates with—the award-winning 100% open source WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware platform and WSO2 Private PaaS (http://wso2.com/cloud/private-paas), the most complete PaaS available. WSO2 App Factory also provides out-of-the-box support for Jenkins and Git. Additionally, it enables integration through open, interoperable extension points, which makes it easy to configure new life-cycle stages, workflows, and tools of a developer’s choice. This includes integration with:
• Preferred integrated development environments (IDEs).
• Popular software development lifecycle (SDLC) tools, such as Apache Subversion (SVN), Maven, Redmine, Clover, FindBugs and JUnit.
• Any SDLC toolset that has the proper extensions.
• Existing user repositories, including LDAP or Microsoft Active Directory.
New and Enhanced Features in WSO2 App Factory 2.0
Version 2.0 of WSO2 App Factory adds several new and enhanced capabilities to the open cloud-based DevOps platform.
Runs on WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0. WSO2 App Factory 2.0 runs on WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0 (http://wso2.com/cloud/private-paas/), which also launches today. WSO2 Private PaaS 4.0 is the first platform as a service built on the Apache Stratos 4.0 PaaS framework. It adds a message bus as the core communication system to make the overall architecture more resilient and pluggable; integrates both real-time and rule-based decision-making; enhances capabilities for load balancing and elastic scaling, and adds smart policies and partitions to enable more controllability of the underlying infrastructure as a service (IaaS). For more information, see also the WSO2 Private PaaS press release dated June 16, 2014.
Expanded Tenant Capabilities. Version 2.0 of WSO2 App Factory now enables lazy loading of tenant artifacts, which delays their initialization until they are needed, improving performance. The newest release also has improved the Jenkins build server's scalability to support thousands of tenants at the same time, and it enhances capabilities for adding multiple tenants to a single WSO2 App Factory instance.
Per-Developer Repositories and Builds. WSO2 App Factory 2.0 adds the ability for developers to create their own repositories and builds by forking the main repository. As a result, developers can build and test features independently—without affecting others on the team—and then merge the code changes into the main repository when they are done.
Executive Dashboards. Integration of WSO2 App Factory 2.0 and WSO2 BAM enables IT professionals to create executive and CIO dashboards that provide a quick, global overview of what is happening with various projects across the company.
Other key new capabilities in WSO2 App Factory 2.0 include:
• New custom URL mapping for applications, which enables production hosting of applications under custom URLs that companies can share with their consumers, rather than requiring a long internal URL for the application.
• A new notification wall—similar to the right-hand pane in Facebook—that provides developers with continuous feeds on all the activities relevant to their applications.
• Functionality for viewing runtime logs of applications or downloading archived runtime logs by specifying a date.
• Ability to create applications by directly uploading a project's .war file (for Web apps, JAX-RS and JAX-WS apps) or .zip files (for apps built using the Jaggery server-side JavaScript scripting engine).
• Lightweight multi-tenant issue tracking system to track bugs, features and improvements.
Availability and Support
WSO2 App Factory 2.0 is available today. As a fully open source solution released under the Apache License 2.0, it does not carry any licensing fees. WSO2 App Factory is backed by a world-class technical team in which the experts that helped create the software provide support, leading to direct and immediate access to the people with in-depth knowledge of the middleware. Keynote will discuss security best practices and how open standards are evolving to handle the complexities of identity management and assurance
Palo Alto, CA – June 10, 2014 – Identity assurance is pivotal to achieving a government’s commitment to a “digital by default” society and ensuring online public service delivery. Several open standards for authentication and authorization are playing a central role in implementing robust identity management solutions to support this objective. WSO2 Co-founder and CTO Paul Fremantle will examine these standards in his keynote presentation at the Identity Assurance 2014 Forum. WSO2 is a Contributor at the event, which is being held June 11, 2014 on One Wimpole Street in London.
In his keynote presentation, “Open Standards for Identity: Understanding the Landscape,” Paul will look at identity management best practices and how open standards are evolving to handle the complexities of identity management and assurance. Key topics will include:
• Open protocols for single-sign on, including the Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) and OpenId Connect
• Multi-factor authentication
• How to avoid passwords at all costs
• Claims-based access control

WSO2 speakers will examine the Apache Stratos PaaS framework architecture and discuss the concepts around API-driven application design and development
Palo Alto, CA – June 9, 2014 – The cloud and APIs are helping to transform the way enterprises collaborate and communicate with customers, partners, and internal groups within the organization. At QCon New York 2014, WSO2 technology experts will deliver two presentations that examine how software architects and developers can apply architectural best practices to these technologies:
• Samisa Abeysinghe, WSO2 vice president of delivery, will discuss how developers can take advantage of the Apache Stratos PaaS framework.
• Nuwan Bandara, WSO2 senior technical lead, will explore how to create an API-driven application ecosystem that drives revenue and delivers value to customers.
WSO2 is a Platinum Sponsor of QCon New York 2014, which will run June 11-13, 2014 at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, NY.
June 11: Exploring Apaches Stratos
Samisa Abeysinghe, WSO2 vice president of delivery, will present the session, “PaaS Design & Architecture: A Deep Dive into Apache Stratos.” The talk is part of the “Solutions Track” that will run from 3:00-3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 in the Grand Ballroom.
In his session, Samisa will examine the architecture and key features of the Apache Stratos PaaS framework, which graduated to a full Apache project earlier this month. He will then explain how the multi-tenancy model, which allows high multi-tenancy density within a deployment, is a key advantage of the PaaS framework. This includes how the ability to control infrastructure as a service (IaaS) resourced—per cloud, per region and per zone—paves the way to easily achieve high availability and disaster recovery. Additionally, Samisa will explore how Apache Stratos delivers multi-factor-based auto scaling, dynamic load balancing, and cloud bursting.
Samisa has nearly 15 years of experience working for systems integrators and software vendors with global exposure. Previously, he led the development of WSO2’s cloud and middleware platforms as vice president of engineering. Prior to WSO2, Samisa worked for systems integrators and software vendors with global exposure. He is a longtime Apache Web Services project committer, and initiated the Apache Axis2/C project. In addition to several published articles, Samisa has authored two books: “RESTful PHP Web Services” and “PHP Team Development.”
June 12: An API-Driven Application Ecosystem
Nuwan Bandara, WSO2 Senior Technical Lead, will present the session, “API-Driven Applications – An Ecosystem Architecture.” The talk is part of the “Solutions Track” that will run from 10:40-11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2014 in the Grand Ballroom.
In his session, Nuwan will explore the key elements of API-driven application design and development. He then will explain the benefits of adopting an API-first approach when it comes to creating multiple information streams to deliver and acquire information. Nuwan also will discuss the need to understand the customer and API-driven design to create a successful business model. Finally, he will explain the roles of federated identity, privacy policies, and established trusted secure communications in providing a seamless user experience.
Nuwan works closely with WSO2 customers on enterprise solutions and his experience spans across multiple verticals, such as e-government, education, e-commerce and healthcare. Previously, Nuwan worked as a product lead on the WSO2 engineering team for products, such as WSO2 User Engagement Server, WSO2 Enterprise Store, WSO2 Mashup Server, and the Jaggery server-side JavaScript scripting engine. He also has contributed to WSO2 API Manager and WSO2 Carbon, as well as to the Apache Web Services and Apache Shindig projects within the Apache Software Foundation.
Integrated Open Source Approach to Application Development and Management
The WSO2 booth at QCon New York will have experts available to discuss the synergistic, integrated approach of WSO2’s 100% open source platforms (http://wso2.com/landing/wso2-advantages/) in addressing the application development and management demands enterprises face today. They include the comprehensive WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware platform, WSO2 Enterprise Mobility Manager, WSO2 App Factory cloud-enabled DevOps platform, WSO2 Private PaaS and WSO2 Public Cloud.
Significantly, all WSO2 solutions are built on the same fully componentized, OSGI-compliant code base. As a result, developers can easily deploy and customize any of these WSO2 products and the 175-plus components on which they are comprised, providing greater flexibility and agility to meet changing enterprise demands.
In addition to WSO2 cloud platforms, all WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware products also are fully multitenant and cloud-ready. This means IT professionals can write an application once and deploy it on the same middleware on-premises, in the cloud, or in a hybrid environment.
