A bug in the Windows 10 Search is causing blank results to be shown in both the Start Menu and in File Explorer. This is making it impossible to search for and launch an application from the Start Menu. How is Redmond doing lately? Search me.
Because you can't search them.
I'll get my coat.

In other news, none of the third-party search tools are broken, and the vast majority of them work better, anyway.

Yeah, but this part is the part that hurts most(only):
Quote: This is making it impossible to search for and launch an application from the Start Menu.
The bug isn't affecting me (I seem to be immune to all these flubs for some reason), but I can see this as being a hassle for people that don't have their desktop/task bar loaded with apps they need.

Which one would you recommend? I have FileLocator Lite. I would really like to have a service that maintained a SQL database and then name search queries would be near instantaneous.

I have Everything[^] installed. It's lightweight (no frills at all), and pretty damned quick.

Not really on topic, I was just really interested.

Fun fact, Leatherface was based on Ed Gein who "wore parts" of his female victims because he actually wanted to be a woman (times weren't good for transgenders back then)

That was a bit of sarcasm from my part
No sympathy for Ed Gein whatsoever, the guy was sick beyond redemption.

A team of Brown University researchers has made substantial progress in an effort to create a new type of molecular data storage system. "It's also a floor wax"

Corporations love to pretend that 'anonymization' of the data they collect protects consumers. Studies keep showing that’s not really true. "Say my name"

Who steals my purse steals trash; 'tis something, nothing;
'Twas mine, 'tis his, and has been slave to thousands;
But he that filches from me my good name
Robs me of that which not enriches him,
And makes me poor indeed.
I've got nothing to hide; the bank account I use on-line only has money in it when I have to pay for something from it; and I don't give a flying f*** about cr@p like reputation and image.
So there's not much that these data-slurping wankers can do to hurt me, and I've got no real reason to hide behind a bushel.
But that's not the point.
It's the violation.
I've never been burglarised, but I know that it traumatises people, knowing that some stranger has been in their house, going through all their private, personal memories, just to cold-heartedly steal whatever they can sell.
Knowing that uncaring, contemptuous eyes have stared at your precious mementos is an absolute violation. A little piece of your heart is broken, each time. It can only hurt people, and can do no good.
And that is exactly what the data slurpers do. If people were aware of everything they slurp, everything they look at, everything they touch, they would light torches and burn the b*st*rds down.
"Do no evil", my arse.
The very root of everything google does is evil; it's evil all the way town to its rotten, filthy, disgusting core.

Well, this article is about datasets from breaches made by hackers. Of course, if companies weren't collecting the info then there would be nothing to "breach".
I find this quote at the end of the article incredibly naive, as if a law would mean anything:
Quote: Until then, we’re left relying on the promises of corporations who’ve repeatedly proven their privacy promises aren’t worth all that much.

I thought to myself "What's the point of keeping them off-line?", but then I read the article, and realised that the person writing it barely even knows what a computer is, let alone what difficult terms like on-line and off-line mean.
