Computer scientists have developed a system that learns to identify objects within an image, based on a spoken description of the image. Given an image and an audio caption, the model will highlight in real-time the relevant regions of the image being described. "I spy, with my little eye..."

Oh yeah, that's great idea: "rewriting Python into C" - why not automatically rewrite JavaScript into C? In my opinion, that's far more likely to occur.
Because most "developers" do not grasp concepts beyond if-else or loops like Object-Orientation or Functional Programming (both invented some 50 years ago). They won't grasp more modern concepts either. We will end in scripting "languages".

I've never understood this nihilistic approach to technology, or any human development for that matter; "We've reach a limitation, let's burn it all down."
Patterson thinks he's being insightful and profound, but has the same mindset as people who tore down Penn station claiming it was progress. (Okay, at least he concedes that the market will decide. But if he's so brilliant, why not do it himself instead of throwing stones?)

Google will now let you code your web pages in Basic. Known as WWWBasic, this is — of course — a Javascript hack that you can load remotely into a web page and then have your page use Basic for customization. "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should."
Yeah, I use that one too often, but when it's *really* appropriate...

If Python and Ruby can be considered languages, so can BASIC.

If javascript can be considered a language, then so can basic.

Well, BASIC is worthless because it is an interpreted, weakly typed, imperative programming language while Javascript is an interpreted, weakly typed, imperative programming language but different.

Government Payment Service Inc -- the company thousands of local governments in the US use to accept online payments for everything from court-ordered fines and licensing fees -- has compromised more than 14 million customer records dating back to 2012, KrebsOnSecurity reports. Fortunately, no one ever has to pay the government

Together with the use of Clang as a viable compiler for production use on Windows for multiple web browsers, all of this leaves the question of how you can benefit from Clang tooling. Sorry, all I can think of is that "trolley song" when someone mentions that compiler

Each release of Windows 10 adds new features and functionality; we also occasionally remove features and functionality, usually because we've added a better option. Here are the details about the features and functionalities that we removed in Windows 10, version 1809. Bad news for fans of 3D word art

From the article: "We've replaced the Hologram app with the Mixed Reality Viewer."
Looks like political correctness has finally invaded the desktop. Reality will be based on how the view identifies itself.

Quote: In Windows 10, version 1809, we're introducing a new universal app, Snip & Sketch, that provides the same screen snipping abilities, as well as additional features. A UWP app? It will be interesting to see how they polish the simplicity-turd into something usable.
(Maybe they will surprise me.)
