Google has turned on the fun switch on Google Maps with a playable version of Pac-Man. April 1st comes but once a year (fortunately)

To add to the difficulty level, go to Venice (Italy) or any other older city.
I'd rather be phishing!

An area where the street layout is defined by topography as the streets wind around hills instead of being a nice grid is fun too. I think Venice's huge number of dead ends would still be worse; but around where I live wasn't a walk in the park either.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Microsoft is targeting enterprise developers with changes it is making to its Visual Studio 2015 pricing and version line-up. From 'free' to "If you have to ask, you can't afford it"

Meh. The only change was that they got rid of the most expensive tier. OTOH work has always been too cheap to even get me the medium one. (Or maybe they just default to Pro; I know they wouldn't spring for Ultimate, and Premium never seemed to offer enough to justify its price to the extend of being worth asking for before.)

The open source software needs more attention to interoperability, security and its kernel, according to experts at the Embedded Linux Conference here. Quick! Start a new distro for that!

One of C++s strengths is that it is possible to write very performant code. But does that mean we always have to worry about performance and write our everyday code as performant as possible? Speed kills?

One of the strengths of coal is to make good barbeques where you can cook crispy bacon, but does it mean you have to grill the full pig at once?
Clean code is very important, performant code too (where it is needed)

If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?
Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you

Macroes. Macroes as fastest. Use macroes and hide the ugly code in there. Done.

Working code trumps "fast" non-working code.
Don't over-engineer. Make it only as complex as necessary.
Do only what you need now, but plan for the future.
Most code does not need to be optimized.
Once the code is working, use a profiler to highlight the areas that need performance improvements.
Then make small incremental changes to increase performance.
Rinse and repeat.

Bare-bones GXUI cross-platform UI library is garnering interest on GitHub, given Go's lack of native GUI support. Use it before they kill it, or redesign it completely

IT departments are constantly reorganizing, but a few companies have gone so far as to break the traditional IT department into pieces. "And maybe it's the time of year, yes, and maybe it's the time of man."
Best to take a hit of whatever they're smoking before reading the article: "To remind Zapponians just how different they are expected to work now, the company renamed its traditional departments. Marketing is now Life Cycle. The core retail business is Flywheel Operations. IT is Unicorn, after Hsieh's favorite creature."
