Apple's much-rumored trade-in program officially rolls out today, letting you get a discount on a new iPhone by trading your old one directly to Apple. I'd wait a few days, if I were you.

Finally, I saw this in a book about future space travel etc. that was printed a couple of decades ago.

It sounded familiar to me as well. I might seem a little alarmist, but the notion of a satellite broadcasting microwaves onto my head sounds a little unpleasant.
I imagine those kind of details have been worked out, and the chance is small that Nero could get a hold of it along with some red matter to blow up our planet.

What happens when a bug causes the satellite to send a thousand times the energy?

People get a really great tan? That's the part that I really don't get. We've never been all that good at predicting the downside of any large projects like this.

Nope! The polar ice caps melt and we end up drowning.

We see so much emotional discussion about software process, design practices and the like. Many of these arguments are impossible to resolve because the software industry lacks the ability to measure some of the basic elements of the effectiveness of software development. In particular we have no way of reasonably measuring productivity. How long is a function?

Microsoft offered a temporary promotion for its Surface Pro tablet earlier this month that was set to end Thursday, but now it looks like the new price point will be permanent. Hurry and buy now! Supplies are limited (to a few million)

The way Linus acts like an unrepentant raging elephanter and responding to criticism by insisting that being an elephanter is part of his Finish manliness I don't see it changing. Noone wants to work with a jerk.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
