Programmer vs. developer? Developer vs. engineer? Programmer vs. engineer? There are differences in salary, prestige and upward mobility. About $20,000 a year?

Developer vs Engineer you don't notice differences until moving towards embedded systems, where knowing a dozen of frameworks counts nothing but knowledge of physics, electronics and mathematics goes a long way.

The problem is that Developer and Software Engineer titles can be given to 'high level' roles that don't go anywhere near writing or even reading code. I am retired now and would describe myself has having been a software author. Someone who designed and wrote software.

Microsoft is aiming to fix AMD performance issues this month But of course...
I'm really starting to think that Windows versions follow the "rule" of Star Trek films (ever other one is good)

Maybe they should start the next Windows redesign by completely redoing, and combining the Control Panel and the Settings app into one comprehensive, cohesive, program. And then building out from there, making certain that all windows, popups, etc, match that design scheme.
Or just go back to Windows 7. It is still the best, after all these years.
But if they took the first approach, and did it well, they might make 7 the second best.

Microsoft has shared details of a new known issue with Windows 11. The company has confirmed that a problem exists with apps that use certain characters in registry keys. So just use perfected normal ones like Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000300-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\InprocServer32

A majority of organizations understand the importance of modern security in cloud native deployments, but few seem to be following through on that. Everyone wants to be secure, but no one wants to do anything to get there

Astronomers have discovered unusual signals coming from the direction of the Milky Way's center. The radio waves fit no currently understood pattern of variable radio source and could suggest a new class of stellar object. "I hear the talking of the DJ. Can't understand just what does he say?"

A systematic review of research into the dark side of social media use has identified 46 harmful effects, ranging from physical and mental health problems to negative impacts on job and academic performance, as well as security and privacy issues. There's a non-dark side?

I think Benjamin Franklin said there are only 3 things certain in life. Death, taxes and social media trolls...
Of course he also flew a kite with a metal object attached during a lightening storm so all sayings are suspect. I can only imagine the people that walked by telling him his new umbrella didn't work.
