I especially like the graphs plotting "average method length" vs. "average defect density": they also show a terrible defect density for a function length of 0.

Code has a life beyond you, and thinking of the longevity of your code is key to its survival, and your success as a programmer. What moron wrote this code? Oh, right. Well, that was last week.

I think it is the duty of the programmer to write code no one else can understand, maintain, or modify, to ensure the code supports him/her for the rest of their lives ... as long as the customer keeps paying.

A new Microsoft patent reveals details about a topic-based summarizer for meetings and presentations. Why does it just keep printing, "A waste of an hour?"

An hour? Our meetings used to last fifty hours, in a paper bag...

Neuralink has demonstrated a prototype of its brain-machine interface that currently works in pigs. Do not attempt to adjust your thinking. We are controlling transmission.
That sewing machine robot that freaks me out more than their chip.
Apologies to Bill for reposting, but ... yeah, I have not excuse.

As you said above, "You first." I ain't going nowhere near that. Newton may have prodded behind his own eye, but if he knew anything about the functioning of the brain I doubt he'd be too keen on having people prodding around in there to insert a chip or whatever it is Elon is pushing.

Let's just put it this way: This year has made it very clear that there are a whhooollle buuuunnnchhh of ignorant people running around who lack the sense to say no to such a product.

And how do they pay for this? By putting commercials in your dreams.

If I had a chance to create a browser, I would definitely put in some features that would make it much more difficult if not impossible to fingerprint the browser.
The difficult we do right away...
