I often wonder how much C02 emissions is caused by excessive power consumption due to inefficient code.

To answer the subject line question, yes, but there aren't enough actual smart software engineers that know how to write efficient code. And those that exist are doing so already.

I can only agree, but that's not news. If you get it, it's because the runtime that hosts the virus is there. If it isn't, there's no way this can happen.
