I was 10 when it came out. I read it a year or two later, pretty much my introduction to sci-fi. I haven't read a lot of sci-fi since, but saw several of the popular movies and tv series (mostly with my kids).

I d o like Sci-Fi and have read quite a bunch of books when I had more spare time... looking forward to do it again when the kids are a bit older and don't need so much time from our side.
I could recommend you a couple of things if you want.

ps - feel free to delete this rather crass post. I would not want to explain it to a youngster. Nor would I want to explain about the L1 lagrange point, how big in diameter this c****m object would need to be, and given that diameter, the difficulty of keeping the object stable at that point without continuous energy inputs.

There are sooooo many things that were not considered als potentially going wrong in that... not to start with needed resources and technolgy to implement it.

There was some work done on the idea that it was the pollution of the '50s, '60s, and '70s that caused "global cooling". Apparently the pollution in the high atmosphere caused the Earth's aldebo to rise, cooling the Earth. So what we need to do is to repeal the Clean Air Act (in the USA) and similar acts elsewhere.
Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.

I believe we are at the threshold of a new programming paradigm. What do you mean?

Quote: The exact figure may vary, but I think it's safe to say most developers are already using AI in their day to day.
For such a statement it would be wise first define AI...

I think I grok it, and I think he's right with the caveat that we still must teach AI new semantics and we still must not only understand the semantics but have the appropriate vocabulary to reference them.
I believe what he is getting at, to define semantics, is stuff like:
"Loop through the returned dataset and eliminate cartesian products"
"Implement a pub sub pattern that sends MyNotifications to subscribers"
Things like that.
Personally, I would find this both empowering and limiting (but I also only plan to ever use ML assist very minimally).
Limiting maybe because many semantics I think I began to grasp either before they had names (or had different ones!) or before I knew their names. Empowering because I'd definitely be one to be writing on the forefront where ML just hasn't had code written for some "new semantic" to train on.
This also highlights something I've been saying about ML as relates to code. It doesn't really threaten the avg+ developer in any way. If anything, we will be needing copious amounts more of those minds. Get your onboarding in order!

Yet another battery "breakthrough" that has yet to make it to commercialization. It seems that every single week we're bombarded with a battery breakthrough that invalidates the purchase of today's crop of EVs. Sorry folks, but this smacks of perfect defeating good enough.

Copilot became the talk of the town after the September 2023 Update for Windows 11, but it only appeared in a small vertical section on the right side of the screen. Microsoft has plans to make Copilot full-screen, and you can now resize it to some extent. We heard you like AI, so we'll AI your whole screen
