In an advisory to employees, IBM global chief Information security officer Shamla Naidoo said the company “is expanding the practise of prohibiting data transfer to all removable portable storage devices (eg: USB, SD card, flash drive).” And I had just bought a new Zip drive cartridge

Quote: UPDATE: Since publishing this story we've heard whispers that IBM has taken note of staff objections to the removable storage ban, especially when doing software updates, and is considering making a few exemptions.
At least IBMs leadership is faster to begin backing off when people start pointing out not being able to do their jobs.
A decade ago when the DoD did the same, it took them months to begin a partial back off.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Microsoft is testing a new cross-platform 'cloud clipboard' in its latest preview of Windows 10 'Redstone 5,' along with updates to Sets, Notepad and more. Bandwidth be damned!

Wow, that means they can spy on what you copy to the clipboard. Much better to learn what you're interested in.
The difficult we do right away...

I have pasted a lot of times things that were copied by co-workers in other laptops just because we both had the remote desktop to a server simultaneously opened.

Hmmmm,
I'm looking forward to the release of HoloLens so we can modify it with four EEG sensors on each side. Just imagine how awesome it will be when we can upload a discrete fast fourier transform of our brain waves into the cloud!
Movies and video games can monitor what type of input generates fear, surprise, joy, laughter and give direct feedback to the movie and game producers. Hopefully that data will produce some better Hollywood movies and an immersive gaming experience.
Best Wishes,

At Build developer conference today, Microsoft announced that they are introducing a new Windows class that will allow developers to easily include multiple windows support in their UWP apps. Boldly adding features from the 80s back into Windows!

Though it has been around for 13 years now, F# has in some ways seemed to be the neglected little brother of the older C# language in the .NET ecosystem. Then there's that *other* language... What was it called again? Simple? No, Basal? Dang, it's been a while.

Earlier this week at Build 2018, Kevin Gallo previewed a new WebView for Windows 10, bringing the latest Microsoft Edge rendering engine to .NET WinForms and WPF apps for the first time in an upcoming release of Windows 10. Oh, goodie. A new set of quirks and workarounds incoming.
|
|
|

However, until recently, WinForms and WPF apps didn’t have access to the Microsoft Edge-powered WebView.
Uh, I think I'll stick with Chromium. Chrome is still a better browser.

@Marc-Clifton
It would be interesting to see comparisons/benchmarks of the Edge WebView and something like CefSharp that uses Chromium.

Almost all major OS vendors released security patches yesterday after a researcher discovered that some OS makers have misinterpreted an Intel CPU debug feature and left their systems open to attacks. Docs were misinterpreted? They're normally so clear and helpful
Especially the Microsoft ones: "The Colors.Black property returns the color black."

|
|
|

The fact that those docs were misinterpreted so widely really speaks to the quality (or lack thereof) of said docs.
