A cybersecurity firm has discovered yet another unknown vulnerability used to install government spyware. The vulnerability has now been patched. A flaw in a Word document over email? Is this new?

On an annual basis, research productivity is declining at a rate of about 6.8 per cent per year in the semiconductor industry. In other words, we're running out of ideas. That's the conclusion of economic researchers from Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I had no idea

That means each researcher's output today is 18 times less effective in terms of generating economic value than it was several decades ago.
Because the relationship between concept and time is clearly a linear one.

Zero times a small number is still zero.
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

Let's start with the money: It was funded in part by Coca-Cola
And that’s just the beginning of the study’s problems. Up next: It didn’t actually measure sitting
Then there’s the participant data: It’s not representative—like, at all
Then there’s missing data and weak links
Those are just the subheadings. You should read the entire thing to see how awful it is.

"Two-phase name lookup” is an informal term that refers to a set of rules governing the resolution of names used in a template declaration. I'm guessing this is a good thing?

The XAML designers in Visual Studio and Blend have been powerful tools for developers and designers alike to build beautiful user experiences for Windows applications. Initially designed for WPF development in 2007, So it works now?
"This release of the updated XAML designer is a very early preview of what’s to come and might be rough around the edges." OK, nothing's changed then?

Oh things changed alright:
Quote: The drastic nature of the changes has resulted in us disabling some of the features that previously existed in the XAML designer

Well, the good thing is that with XAML in one pane and design in another and other docked dialogs you can't see anything anyways.
Not to mention the invisible controls (boundaries are hidden), which is a really nifty f...f..f...feature.

Kent Sharkey wrote: As a result, we are only releasing the updated designer for a small subset of XAML scenarios – specifically, for developers building UWP applications that target the Fall Creators Update. If you were building a WPF application or a UWP application targeting the existing Windows 10 Creators Update or earlier, your experience will remain unchanged.
That's great for 1/10th of the 1%. Basically, the rest of us doing WPF are still screwed.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.

Kent didn't write that; MS did.
But yeah, if that's a permanent limitation or just them only releasing the beta version on a single platform where its open issues won't affect many people now but with the intent of extending it to the rest of mainstream workloads is a question they really should've answered.

I'm currently taking bets on whether we'll get Visual Studio support for XAML 2009 before 2019; or before WPF is forcibly retired, whichever is sooner.
Support XAML 2009 in Visual Studio Editor and WPF markup-compiler – Visual Studio[^]
In WPF, you can use XAML 2009 features, but only for XAML that is not WPF markup-compiled.
Markup-compiled XAML and the BAML form of XAML do not currently support the XAML 2009 language keywords and features.
