New report claims that software development is being affected by a number of data-related issues. Yeah, that last bug was entirely the data's fault. Honest.

|
|

Why, yes it is.
This afternoon I was working on a Regular Expression to split a DNS name and suddenly up jumped an entry like:

And the article is actually about test data. Yeah, knowing how the data are likely to look like is quite an advantage when writing software, I guess.

Mats Järlström was fined $500 by the state of Oregon for writing 'I am an engineer' in an email to the government. Bad news for domestic and sanitation engineers in Oregon

His lawyer ought to argue that he didn't say "a state-licenced engineer".
The state lawyers don't understand laws.

I don't know about Oregons laws specifically; but in some states the baseline engineer title is restricted to certified/professional engineers; and that anyone else who has an engineering degree has to use something from a proscribed set of lesser titles that (to anyone who knows the minutia of the local law anyway) indicate that they don't have the same level of certification and aren't permitted to be the lead on major industrial/civil engineering projects. More relaxed jurisdictions (AFAIK most of the US) do work the way you're suggesting with a specific title for certified people and a free for all otherwise.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

In most states, one has to pass the Professional Engineer's exam to be able to append P.E. to one's name.
